Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Amarillo, TX - One game after posting a season-high six goals against the Rapid City Rush, the Amarillo Gorillas struggled offensively in a 3-1 loss against the Tulsa Oilers in Oklahoma Saturday night.

The Gorillas, playing their first game in Tulsa's brand-new BOK Center, managed to draw first blood on the only goal of the initial period. Austin Sutter took a feed from Gordon Bell and skated deep into the Oilers zone. Sutter forwarded a shot from the left wing, which deflected off the stick of a sprinting Jake Morissette behind Tulsa netminder Kevin St. Pierre. The goal was Morissette's third on the year, and put Amarillo on top 1-0 after 20 minutes.

During the second frame, however, the pace of play belonged nearly exclusively to the Oilers. After the Gorillas were late coming back on the ice for the second period, a bench minor was assessed against Amarillo that gave Tulsa an early powerplay. Just one minute into the powerplay, Jake Riddle scored his first of the season, tipping a Brendon Hodge shot past Mike Gorman to tie the game at one.

Hodge would add to the Tulsa lead, jamming a rebound past Gorman at the 6:53 mark of the second period. Rounding out the scoring for Tulsa was Riddle, who netted his second of the game and the season after a broken play at the front of the Amarillo net to make the score after two periods 3-1.

Despite putting 14 third-period shots on the Tulsa net, the Gorillas were unable to draw any closer to the Oilers. St. Pierre stopped 33 of 34 Amarillo shots on goal in the game to earn the victory, while Gorman took his first loss in net for the Gorillas after making 24 saves on 27 shots.

With the loss, the Gorillas drop to 3-6-0 on the season. Amarillo will face off next against the Odessa Jackalopes on Friday, November 14 at the Ector County Coliseum in Odessa. The team will not play another home game until November 28, when they take on the Rocky Mountain Rage in a 7:05 PM contest at the Amarillo Civic Center.
