Laredo Bucks News Release

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 5-2 on Salute To Heroes Night, in front of 4,675 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Bucks win snapped their two-game losing streak, and vaulted them into first place in the Southeast Division with a 6-4 record (12pts). The loss was the Killer Bees first in regulation (5-1-1, 11pts).

Team Captain Serge Dube scored two goals, while Jason Dixon picked up one goal and handed out two assists.

Sebastien Centomo set aside 29 of 31 Killer Bee shots, to move to 5-3 in the Laredo net thus far this season.

Each team battled to a scoreless opening period.

The Bucks and Bees (1-1 on the road) special teams each got a good workout in the first period, as Laredo went 0-for-five on the power-play, while Rio went 0-for-two.

Laredo had a good opportunity to take an early lead, as they had a four-on-three, five-on-three, and five-on-four power-play, all in the span of four minutes, with the Bucks coming up empty on each attempt.

Laredo (4-2 at home) outshot Rio in the first 20 minutes 9-5.

The Bucks broke loose in the second period as they scored three times, to take a 3-0 lead into the third period.

Laredo jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 43 seconds into the second, as rookie Mike Gooch skated down the left side of the ice, and fed Serge Dube right in front of the net, who poked the puck through Wylie Rogers legs.

The Bucks went up 2-0 at the 9:31 mark of the period, when Igor Agarunov knocked in a rebound on the left side of the crease past Rogers, to score his third goal of the campaign. Rookie Jason Dixon picked up his eighth assist on the season on the strike.

Laredo would close out the second period scoring and take a 3-0 lead, when Dube laced a rocket slap shot from the top of the left circle past Rogers. The goal was Dube's second of the evening. Jeff Bes (13) and Adam Rivet (4) handed out assists on the Captain's goal. Bes has now picked up a point in nine of 10 games this season.

The Bucks outshot the Bees in the second period 14-12.

Laredo increased their lead to 4-0, 4:30 into the third period when Dixon tallied on the right of the crease past Rogers. Alex Goupil (6) and Bobby Russell (4) picked up assists.

Rio would score two straight times to cut the Bucks lead to 4-2, when Rob Voltera (3) and Jesse Bennefield (4) tallied at the 9:54 and 15:38.

The Bucks would cap the scoring with 1:38 left in the third when Goupil took a beautiful feed from Dixon on the right side of the crease to ease the puck past Rogers. The strike gave the Goupil the outright team lead with eight goals.

Rogers stopped 26 shots in the Rio net.

The Bucks gave away free tickets to Saturday's game to active, and Veteran Military Members, as well as raised money for the Wounded Warriors Project.

The Bucks will continue their season-high seven-game home stand next weekend, when they host the Wichita Thunder on Friday November 14th, before hosting their hated rivals, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs Saturday November 15th, on Boy Scout Night.
