Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - Joe Blaznek's shootout game-winning goal helped the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs earn a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the Rocky Mountain Rage Saturday night at CenturyTel Center. The Bugs rallied from a 2-0 deficit to force overtime and then win the shootout 3-2 on the team's Military Appreciation Night.
Dave Pszenyczny had a goal and an assist and Tyrel Lucas scored his fifth goal in six games to help the Mudbugs come from behind to win for the second game in a row. Jon Horrell made 21 saves in his Mudbugs debut to earn his first career shootout victory.
For the sixth time this season though, Bossier-Shreveport surrendered the first goal of the game when Colt King scored on a one-timer from Aaron Davis at 4:47 of the first period. King's tally gave Rocky Mountain a 1-0 lead after twenty minutes.
The Rage added to the lead when Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn stuffed a rebound past Horrell in the second to make it 2-0. Then with just 11 seconds remaining in the middle period, the Bugs finally broke through on the scoreboard. Pszenyczny sent a puck towards the net from the point when Lucas got in position to shoot it through Marty Magers' five-hole and make it a 2-1 game after two periods.
The Mudbugs then used their top-ranked powerplay to tie the game at two in the third. Travis Clayton slid a pass through traffic in the slot to a wide-open Pszenyczny, who finished off his first goal as a Mudbug with just over 11 minutes remaining.
Despite trading powerplays in the overtime session, neither team could score at sudden death and the game went to a shootout. The Mudbugs fell behind 1-0 in the shootout before all of their last three shooters (Chris Brassard, Simon Mangos, and Blaznek) scored to put them on top 3-2. Horrell then forced Simon Watson to hit the post to seal the victory.
Bossier-Shreveport was 1 for 8 on the powerplay in the game, while Rocky Mountain finished 0 for 9. The Bugs outshot the Rage 32-23 overall.
Up next for the Mudbugs is a trip to North Richland Hills, Texas for a Sunday afternoon tilt with the Texas Brahmas at 3:05 pm. The Bugs and Brahmas will tangle for the second time this year after a 5-1 Mudbugs victory on CHL opening night at CenturyTel Center. The game can be heard live on 710 AM KEEL with the pregame show starting at 2:45 pm and will also be shown live on the CHL Network.
