Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Amarillo, TX - Amarillo is finding a way to win in the last few games, now riding a three game winning streak as they beat the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 4-3 in overtime on Friday night. For the second consecutive night, the Gorillas rookies came through in overtime as David Nimmo notched the game winner last night, and tonight it was Grant Selinger's turn, who scored 2:28 into overtime to give Amarillo the victory.

Amarillo would have to come from behind again, as they fell into a 2-0 hole off goals from Mark O'Leary and Josh Bonar in the first period. Early in the second, Rob Voltera would put the Bees on top 3-0, and that's the last time the Bees would score.

Amarillo's comeback began late in the second, as Grant Selinger would notch a short-handed goal at 7:13 to cut the lead to 3-1 heading into the final frame. Chris Lipsett's 13th goal of the season at 7:10 of the third period, also short-handed, would bring the Gorillas to within one. Amarillo's furious rally finally paid off as David Nimmo was able to tie the score with his goal at 19:15 of the third, as he put a backhander past Bees goalie Jeff Van Nynatten for his 13th goal of the year.

Amarillo was short-handed early in the overtime period as Grant Selinger took a high-sticking penalty just :19 into the extra session, but the Gorillas would kill off the penalty and as Selinger came out of the box, joining the Gorillas rush, a mad scramble ensued in front of Van Nynatten. Eventually Selinger would pull the loose puck from the pile and put it into the empty net for the game winner, giving the Gorillas three wins in a row, and goalie Dan Bauer his fourth consecutive victory.

Amarillo will be in action again tomorrow night, taking on the Odessa Jackalopes at 7:05 PM.
