Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Broomfield, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Rage's impressive turn-around season from a year ago continues to receive recognition as the team claimed first place in the latest Central Hockey League Coaches Poll that was released today. Complete poll results are listed below.
The club has the best winning percentage in the CHL (.842) to go along with a record of 15-2-2, helping it garner 11 out of a possible 17 first-place votes from the coaches. During their inaugural campaign, the Rage managed just 17 wins on their way to finishing in last place in the Northwest Division. As this weekend's slate of games begins, Rocky Mountain leads the Northwest by seven points over the second-place Colorado Eagles and can match its entire 2006-07 victory total with a pair of road wins against the Oklahoma City Blazers tonight and the Wichita Thunder tomorrow.
More validation of the team's improved play could come in the next several weeks when the CHL All-Star Teams are announced. Ballots for the Northern and Southern Conference starting line-ups were due today to the league office from the CHL's public relations staffs, head coaches, and select media members. Rage players on the ballot to determine the All-Star Starters included:
Goaltender Scott Reid - Still unbeaten in regulation at 11-0-1 and tied for the league lead in wins.
Defenseman Tyler Butler - Tied for third in the CHL in scoring among defensemen with 23 points (7g-16a).
Defenseman Clay Plume - Last season's Rage Defenseman of the Year.
Left Winger Scott Wray - Tied for first in the league in scoring with 39 points (16g-23a).
Center Daymen Rycroft - Tied for fourth in the league with 14 goals and a team-high six power play markers.
Right Winger Brent Cullaton - Second in the league with 27 assists and tied for eighth in overall scoring.
The Rage will host the CHL All-Star festivities on Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 15 and 16, at Broomfield Event Center. The All-Star Banquet will be held on the 15th, featuring the introduction of the two All-Star Teams and a performance by Denver resident and 2005 Last Comic Standing winner Josh Blue. On the 16th, the Northern and Southern Conferences will square-off in a battle for supremacy between the most talented players in the league.
