Arizona Sundogs News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs traveled to Austin, Texas Friday night to take on Southeast Division opponent, the Austin Ice Bats at Chaparral Ice Arena. Goals by Sean Sullivan, Olivier Latendresse, Karl Sellan and Alex Leavitt carried Arizona to a 4-1 win, good enough for a two-way tie for first place in the Southwest Division with the Odessa Jackalopes. Netminder Bill Zaniboni stopped 29 of 30 shots for his first win since Halloween night.

Arizona opened a one-goal lead with the first period's lone goal at the 9:14 mark. Defenseman Sean Sullivan found the back of the net for his eighth goal of the year on passes from Tyler Redenbach and Alex Leavitt.

Four minutes passed in the second period before Arizona opened a 2-0 lead as Olivier Latendresse snuck the puck past Austin goaltender Doug Groenestege. Leavitt assisted on the play for his second point of the night. Veteran Dan Laperriere was also credited with an assist on the Latendresse marker. Just shy of the midway point, Austin cut Arizona's lead back to one as John Ronan tallied a powerplay goal from Jamie Thompson and R.G. Flath.

In the third, sophomore Karl Sellan collected Arizona's only goal with the man advantage on the night, taking passes from CHL-leading rookie scorer Mark Kolanos and Jon Landry. Leavitt notched his third point and first goal on the night at the 20 minute mark from Latendresse to close out the game with a 4-1 win.

Sundogs netminder Bill Zaniboni deflected 29 of 30 shots in the win while Doug Groenestege blocked 20 of 24 shots in the loss. Arizona finished 1-for-4 on the powerplay while the Ice Bats converted on 1-of-9 chances.

With the win, Arizona improves to 15-6-1 on the season and maintains a two-way tie for first place in the Southwest Division with the Odessa Jackalopes and sits eight points back of Southern Conference leader Laredo. The team now travels to Oklahoma City for a Saturday evening matchup to close out their seven-game road trip and 12 of 15 away from Tim's Toyota Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:35pm (Arizona time) and can be heard live on 96.7 FM The Wolf, the Official Broadcast Home of the Arizona Sundogs.
