Rocky Mountain Claims Top Spot in Latest CHL Coaches Poll
December 14, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
The Rocky Mountain Rage took over the top spot in the CHL Coaches Poll claiming first place from the Youngstown SteelHounds who had held the position for the past two polls. The Rage are 15-2-2 and currently boast the highest winning percentage in the league (.842). The Rage have suffered only two regulation losses (both to New Mexico) that occurred almost a month apart (Nov. 3 & Dec. 1). Rocky Mountain is still yet to fail in earning a point on home ice going 9-0-2 in their 11 home games. The Rage play two road games this weekend traveling to Oklahoma City and Wichita. The Rage were #2 during the last released poll. The former #1 team, the SteelHounds, are just .500 in their last 10 games (5-5-0). The Arizona Sundogs showed the largest leap jumping two spots from #5 to #3 on the heels of their 10-4-0 record over their last 14 games. Along with the SteelHounds, the Laredo Bucks and the Mississippi RiverKings each dropped one spot. The only team falling from the top 10 was the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees who are 2-5-1 in their last eight games. They were replaced in the top 10 by the New Mexico Scorpions who are 3-1-2 in their last six games.
Voting for the CHL Coaches Poll is done by the 17 CHL Head Coaches. The Rage received 11 of the 17 first place votes (teams cannot vote for themselves). Youngstown received three first place votes, Laredo received two first place votes and the Arizona Sundogs received the other top vote.
The CHL Top 10 Coaches Poll will be released at the beginning and the middle of each month through the season. Each first place vote receives 10 points, second place earns nine points, etc.
