Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (December 14)- Just like in the movies, the Brahmas came back from behind Friday evening against the Youngstown SteelHounds at the Chevrolet Center 4-3.
Penalties plagued the opening period as 14 penalties were called, seven on Texas. The SteelHounds powerplay struck first as Youngstown captain Chris Richards shot a puck past Brahmas goaltender David Cacciola. Texas' captain returned the favor midway in the first on the powerplay as he slapped a goal past SteelHound goalie Layne Sedavie. Brahmas forwards Anders Strome and Chris Thompson assisted on the goal.
Before Texas could get to the first intermission, Youngstown snuck another goal past Cacciola with :27 remaining in the period, putting them up 2-1. Eric Przepiorka had the goal.
Special teams proved to be important in the second as eleven more penalties were assessed. Again, SteelHound forward Przepiorka found a hole in Cacciola's pads on the powerplay to put the Hounds up 3-1. Brahmas forward Anders Strome was not willing to let Texas get too far behind as he matched the powerplay goal at the 18:13 mark on a feed from Mike Vellinga and Chris Thompson.
The Brahmas did not want to imitate Wednesday night's collapse in Youngstown as they reflected perseverance and effort on Friday. Chris Thompson led the way for the Brahmas attack with Justin Kinnunen and Grant Jacobsen as he scored a goal to tie the game.
Defenseman Kevin McLeod followed Thompson's leadership as he gave the Brahmas their first lead in the game at the 17:41 mark from Anders Strome and Blair Manning. McLeod's goal earned him the first star of the game.
Texas defeated Youngstown 4-3 in a comeback victory, tying the three-game series for the week 1-1. Friday evenings remain the Brahmas night to shine as they are now 6-1, owning that day.
The Brahmas will wrap up their Youngstown trip tomorrow at 6:05 PM. The game can be seen on CHL Network at http://www.nifty-tv.com/chl/. Texas will return home to play at the NYTEX Sports Centre December 28 to face Odessa for a 7:05 PM start. Ticket information can be found at www.brahmas.com or at (817) 336-4423.
