Allen Americans News Release
ALLEN, Texas- In a battle between the top two teams in the Berry Conference, the first place Allen Americans fell to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 3-2 in overtime tonight in front of 4,002 at the CenturyTel Center in Bossier, LA.
Bossier's James DeLory scored the opening period's lone goal at the 11:45 mark of the frame after breaking into the zone on a 2-on-1 rush and wristing Jamie Milam's feed past Chris Whitley. Whitley, who was activated from injured reserve earlier today, was strong in the opening period with 11 saves on 12 shots while Bossier's John DeCaro stopped all 6 of Allen's shots.
Despite seeing only one goal scored, the first period was not without plenty of action as Bruce Graham, Liam Huculak and Mike Berube all dropped the gloves for Allen. Graham received a game misconduct for his altercation with Bossier's Shawn Limpright and was unable to return.
Shane Hart extended the Mudbugs lead to 2-0 1:43 into the second period with a power play tally, but the Americans would strike back when Colton Yellow Horn's wrister from between the circles beat DeCaro top shelf to cut the Mudbugs lead to 2-1. Tobias Whelan and Jarret Lukin were credited with the assists on the play.
Colton Yellow Horn found the back of the net again and tied the score at 2 with 2:36 remaining in the period after picking up a loose puck in the Mudbugs end and firing it past DeCaro. The goal was Yellow Horn's twenty-second of the season.
After a scoreless third period forced overtime, Bossier's Steven Kyrzakos buried a rebound past Chris Whitley 2:08 into the extra frame to give the Mudbugs a 3-2 win over the Americans.
Chris Whitley finished the night with 26 saves on 29 shots and is now 13-4-1 on the season. Colton Yellow Horn extended his point streak to six games with two goals and has now registered points in 17 of his past 19 games played.
The Americans drop to 34-10-2 (70 points) with the loss but still lead the second place Mudbugs by 14 points in the Berry Conference.
Allen will now travel to North Richland Hills to take on the Texas Brahmas at the Nytex Sports Centre tomorrow night at 7:30 PM, followed by a meeting in Laredo with the Bucks on Tuesday night at 7:00 PM. Both games can be heard at www.allenamericans.com.
