February 18, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release

WICHITA, KS --- Jesse Bennefield's two-goal performance paced the Wichita Thunder to a 5-2 victory over the Mississippi RiverKings in Central Hockey League (CHL) action Friday, February 18th in Wichita. The loss for the RiverKings started a two-game road trip to two of the western-most outposts in the CHL Turner Conference.

Wichita took the 1-0 lead after one period on a last-minute goal scored by A.J. Gale with 36 seconds left in the period. A shot by Gale hit the left post then ricocheted off goaltender Larry Sterling's skate into the net.

The Thunder stretched the lead to 3-0 after two periods on a pair of goals; Mike Looby scoring on a screen shot at 2:02 and Troy Schwab scoring in the final minute of the period at 19:33 for the three-goal advantage going into the final period of play.

Mississippi opened the scoring in the third period when Matt Summers netted his team-leading 20th goal of the season at 1:38 of the session, but Wichita regained the three-goal margin shortly after that on a power play goal from Jesse Bennefield at 3:18.

Bennefield scored again at 8:30 to make the Thunder lead 5-1, but Patrik Levesque finished off the scoring for the night with his 17th goal of the year at 10:41.

Sterling finished with 31 saves for the RiverKings in seeing his record fall to 11-10-3. Wichita goaltender Marc-Antoine Gelinas won his 21st of the season (21-9-3) with a 19-save performance.

The Thunder scored the only power play goal of the night in five tries, while Mississippi went scoreless in six power play chances.

The Wichita win marked their first win over Mississippi since December 6th, 2009 and was the Thunder's first victory over the RiverKings in four tries.

Mississippi falls to 24-23-4 for the season and for the seventh time sees a two-game winning streak not become three. Wichita's record is now 26-18-4 and the Thunder have now won two straight games.

Next up, the RiverKings complete the two game road trip with a game in Colorado Saturday evening. Mississippi hosts Tulsa for a pair of games the following weekend, February 25th and 26th.
