
Brown Called up to AHL's Toronto Marlies

MOLINE, Ill. (February 18, 2011) - The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced that goaltender David Brown has been called up to the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies, the AHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Toronto Maple Leafs, and that the Mallards have activated goaltender Adam Russo.
Brown, 26, leads the CHL in save percentage (.930), is tied for the league lead in shutouts (3) and ranks second in goals against average (2.34). The Stoney Creek, Ontario, native has gone 13-13-1 in 29 games this year.
Brown was named the CHL's January Goaltender of the Month after going 5-2-1 with a 1.38 goals against average, a .958 save percentage and two shutouts in eight January starts.
This marks the third time this season Brown has been called up to the AHL. The 6' 0", 185-pound Brown served as a backup goaltender for the Houston Aeros in the Aeros' January 14 game against the Wolves in Chicago and for the Texas Stars in the Stars' December 8 game against the IceHogs in Rockford.
Brown earlier in his career spent parts of two seasons in the AHL with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. As a rookie in 2007-08, he went 9-7-1 in 19 AHL games while turning in a 2.34 goals against average and a .913 save percentage. The following year Brown went 1-2-0 in four games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Brown was originally selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the eighth round of the 2004 National Hockey League Entry Draft with the two hundred twenty-eighth overall pick.
Russo returns to the Mallards after being granted leave by the CHL Tuesday. Russo has gone 12-6-0 with a 2.60 goals against average, a .927 save percentage and one shutout in 19 games with the Mallards this season.
The Mallards take to the ice at home tonight against the Bloomington PrairieThunder and tomorrow night against the Fort Wayne Komets. Both of those games will face off at 7:05 p.m. This weekend is Alumni Weekend presented by WQAD News 8, 97X and The Dispatch and Rock Island Argus- former Mallards will be welcomed back to the i wireless Center both this evening and tomorrow night. Among the Mallards of the past slated to take part in Alumni Weekend are Martin Fillion, Carl LeBlanc, Mark McFarlane, Howie Rosenblatt, Sergei Zvyagin, Steve Gibson, Kerry Toporowski, Andy Fermoyle and Drew Otten.
