February 18, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Dayton Gems News Release

Just one game after holding their opponent to one goal, the Dayton Gems had a rough outing as they gave up six goals to the Fort Wayne Komets on Friday night and lost 6-3.

Fort Wayne's ability to capitalize on powerplay opportunities played a big role in the game. The Komet's scored three times on four powerplay chances.

Meanwhile, the Gems were given 11 powerplay chances and scored on just one of them.

The Gems held the Komets scoreless in the first period, but gave up four goals in the second period. The Gems managed two goals themselves in the second period and trailed 4-2 at the start of the third.

Dayton's Jonathan Ornelas wasted no time trying to get the Gems back into the game. Just 2:09 into the third period, Ornelas scored his second goal of the game to make it a 4-3 game. But the Komets took over after that.

In the final period, Fort Wayne recorded two goals to capture the 6-3 win.

The Gems will have the night off on Saturday before heading back to Fort Wayne on Sunday for a game at 5 p.m.

The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
