Giosa, Mallards Come from Behind for Overtime Win
February 18, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, IL - Eric Giosa scored at 3:10 of overtime to give the host Quad City Mallards a come-from-behind 3-2 win over the Bloomington PrairieThunder Friday night.
Giosa- who also had an assist- weaved down the slot and wristed a spectacular game winner in off the post after the Mallards had rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the third period to force sudden death.
Quad City was up 5-on-3 when Brandon Marino triggered the comeback by slamming the puck in from the doorstep at 7:02 of the third. The Mallards were again on the power play when Shane Lovdahl blasted the equalizer home from the left point with just less than four and a half minutes remaining in regulation.
Quad City's third period revival proved necessary after the PrairieThunder struck for a pair of second period goals. Jason Dale wristed the shorthanded opener from the right wing circle at 2:33 of the second. At 15:36, Ryan McLeod doubled the lead by burying a rebound. Mallard goaltender Adam Russo, who would finish the night with 35 saves, kept the Thunder off the scoreboard the rest of the way to set the stage for his teammates' turnaround.
The Mallards take to the ice at home tomorrow night against the Fort Wayne Komets at 7:05 p.m. The Mallards' Alumni Weekend- presented by WQAD News 8, 97X and The Dispatch and Rock Island Argus- continues tomorrow evening, as former Mallards are welcomed back to the i wireless Center.
