HIDALGO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 4-0 Friday night at State Farm Arena. The Bucks winless streak extends to a season-high six games (0-5-1) as they fall to 16-26-7 (39 points).
Jerad Kaufmann stopped all 25 shots he faced in his first-ever start against the Bucks to lead the Bees to their third straight win.
The game was scoreless after one period as neither team was able to light the lamp during the first 20 minutes of play.
The Bees outshot the Bucks 14-9 in the first period.
The Bees exploded for four goals in the second period; including three on the power-play to take a 4-0 lead after 40 minutes of play.
Rio went up 1-0 just 1:31 into the second when Tomas Klempa jammed in a rebound from the right side of the crease with the Bees on a two-man advantage.
Just 44 seconds later the Bees would go up 2-0 when Brett Wilson poked in a rebound from the right side of the crease with Rio still on a power-play to net his 12th of the season.
With 4:50 left in the second Aaron Lee re-directed Darcy Campbell's slap shot from the point with the Bees on the power-play. The goal was Lee's 15th of the season.
The Killer Bees would increase their lead to 4-0 with just 28 seconds left in the second period when Klempa banged in a rebound on a breakaway to pick up his second of the night and 20th of the season.
Rio outshot Laredo 13-5 in the second period.
Neither team scored in the third period with the Bucks outshooting the Bees 11-5.
Rio outshot Laredo in the game 31-25 with Pier Pelletier stopping 27 of 31 shots he faced.
The Bucks now trail the Cricket Mayor's cup standings 17 points to 13.
The Bucks and Bees will meet again Saturday night at State Farm Arena. Game time is 7:30pm.
