Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI-When a team is on a winning streak they find ways to win games in different ways. For the first six games of the Milwaukee Admirals current win streak it was their offense that led the way. However it was the defense that stood front and center in Wednesday night's 3-1 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs at the Bradley Center.
Goaltenders Pekka Rinne and Cristobal Huet stole the show for the first two and half periods, swatting away all shots thrown their way. Milwaukee's Darren Haydar looked to have given the Ads a 1-0 lead at the end of the first period when he knocked a floating rebound in, but referee Steve Kozari ruled that Haydar hit it in with a high-stick and the goal was disallowed.
Haydar would bounce back in third period when broke the 0-0 stalemate at the 12:38 mark of the third period. Timofei Shishkanov dumped the puck behind the Hamilton net and the puck took a strange bounce off of the boards and right on to crashing Haydar's stick and he proceeded to be Huet and give the Ads the lead.
Milwaukee would make it 2-0 with just under 90 seconds to go when Greg Classen posted his second goal of the season on assists from Shishkanov and Jordin Tootoo. Tootoo would add an empty net goal to put the Admirals up 3-0 before Garth Murray spoiled Rinne's shutout bid with just 13 seconds to go in the game.
The win was the seventh in a row for the Admirals and it comes after the team suffered four straight loses to begin the 2005-06 campaign. The team will attempt to tie the franchise record of eight consecutive wins this Saturday night when they make their first trip to the All-State Arena to battle the Chicago Wolves.
Rinne stopped 25 of 26 shots to improve his record to 6-3-1 on the season. The rookie goaltender has now won his last six decisions, while allowing just eight goals during that stretch.
The Ads are back in action at the Bradley Center next Tuesday, November 21 when the San Antonio Rampage travel to Milwaukee. For tickets fans can fall Ticketmaster at (414) 276-4545 or log on to www.milwaukeeadmirals.com and click on the ticket button.
