Phantoms can't solve Sound Tigers

BRIDGEPORT, CT - Perfection was the only thing that was going to beat the Phantoms on Wednesday night. But the Bridgeport Sound Tigers got just that from goaltender Chris Madden, who turned away all 29 shots he faced to carry his team to a 1-0 triumph at the Arena at Harbor Yard.
The only tally of the night came from Kevin Colley with 2:39 remaining in the first period. Paul Flache hit Colley with a bomb of a pass that spanned the entire length of the neutral zone. Colley caught the puck in stride and went in on Phantoms netminder Jamie Storr, faking on the forehand before pulling the puck to the backhand and tucking it home. Bruno Gervais got the other assist on the goal.
Both teams suffered from power play outages, as the Phantoms went 0-for-6 and Bridgeport went 0-for-5. The shutout was the first of the year for Madden and was the first time this season that the Phantoms failed to come up with a marker in a game. However, Storr's 23 saves did not go unnoticed, as he earned the third star of the game.
It was the second time in five days that Philadelphia fell victim to the Sound Tigers by a single goal, following a 3-2 setback at the Wachovia Spectrum last Friday. The win was also the sixth in a row for the Sound Tigers.
The contest marked the return of defenseman Freddy Meyer to the lineup. Meyer missed the first 15 games of the season due to an injury he suffered during a Flyers preseason game in September. Winger Ken Magowan also made his Phantoms debut after signing a professional tryout contract on Tuesday. Magowan has scored nine goals and added seven assists for 16 points in 10 games with Toldeo of the ECHL this year.

Philadelphia will look to rebound this Friday night when it starts off a home-and-home series with the Hershey Bears. Face-off time at the Wachovia Spectrum is 7:05 PM. After traveling to Hershey on Saturday, the Phantoms return to the Spectrum on Sunday to host the Norfolk Admirals in a 5:05 affair.
