Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, VA - Brandon Bochenski scored the game-winning goal 58 seconds into overtime to give the Admirals a 3-2 victory over the Manchester Monarchs on Tuesday night at Scope.
Norfolk took a 1-0 lead mid-way through the opening frame on the power play. Brandon Bochenski fired a shot at Manchester goaltender Jason LaBarbera from the top of the right circle. LaBarbera stopped the shot but left a rebound at the bottom of the left circle that Martin St. Pierre scooped up and sent past LaBarbera's glove at 10:30. With the goal, St. Pierre stretched his point streak to a franchise-record eleven games. Norfolk led 1-0 after twenty minutes.
Danny Richmond doubled the Admirals' lead with another man advantage marker. He one-timed a Matt Keith offering through a screen and past LaBarbera at 6:52 of the second stanza.
The Monarchs cut the lead in half under ten minutes later, as Matt Moulson sent a backhand shot over Corey Crawford's left shoulder at 15:27. The teams skated off for the second intermission with Norfolk holding a 2-1 lead.
Manchester tied the game at two goals apiece 11:03 into the third period. Joey Mormina sent a slap shot from the right point past a screened Crawford's left leg pad and just inside the left post.
In overtime, Monarchs forward Shay Stephenson was whistled for hooking 47 seconds into the extra frame. Norfolk took little time capitalizing, as Cam Barker fed Bochenski for a one-timer that found the back of the net 58 seconds into overtime. St. Pierre also assisted on the winning tally, stretching his franchise record assist streak to 11 games.
Corey Crawford stopped 21 of 23 shots and earned his eighth straight home victory, setting the franchise record for consecutive home wins. Jason LaBarbera made 21 saves on 24 shots and was saddled with the loss.
The Admirals were 3-5 on the power play and now lead the AHL in power play efficiency (25.2%). Manchester was 0-5 with the extra attacker.
The clubs skate again tomorrow night at Scope at 7:15, as the Admirals look to stretch their franchise-record home winning streak to eleven games.
