Iowa Chops News Release
MILWAUKEE, WI - The Iowa Stars made their second trip of the season to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for the first game of a six-game road trip. Two third period goals propelled the Stars to their second consecutive 3-2 win over Milwaukee this season. The Stars will now bus to Chicago tonight and grab an early morning flight to face the Syracuse (NY) Crunch on Wednesday night. Wednesday's game time is 6:05 PM CST.
The Admirals grabbed an early 1-0 lead with a goal off the stick of Ramzi Abid. Abid's fifth goal of the season came at 2:59 of the opening frame and on an Iowa turnover. The Admirals out-shot the Stars 11 to 8 in the period.
Iowa's Krys Barch evened the score at one with his second goal of the season. His second goal in as many games came at the 14:30 of the second period. Joel Lundqvist took a pass from Goaltender Dan Ellis, skated to the neutral zone, and fired a shot in on Milwaukee netminder Scott Reid. Barch was able to grab the rebound and fire a shot past Reid.
Just two seconds after an Iowa Stars five minute power-play came to an end, rookie Marty Sertich gave the Stars a 2-1 lead early in the third. Krys Barch sent the puck to John Lammers who then threaded the needle with the pass to Sertich. Sertich's fifth goal of the season came at 4:35 of the third period. Milwaukee's Cal O'Reilly tied the score at two just under five minutes later. O'Reilly's goal came when Iowa's Goaltender Dan Ellis lost an edge and was unable to get back into position.
It looked like the game was going to go into overtime, but the Admirals found themselves down two players with five minutes left in the game. Unable to capitalize on the first power-play, the Stars were able to capitalize on the cross-checking penalty to Milwaukee's Sheldon Brookbank. With Iowa's Joel Lundqvist creating confusion in front of the net, Vojtech Polak fired a shot that found the back of the Milwaukee net. Junior Lessard and Mark Ardelan picked-up the assists on the eventual game-winning goal. Iowa out-shot Milwaukee 10 to 5 in the third period.
Iowa Goaltender Dan Ellis made 24 saves in the victory. It was his seventh win of the season.
