Alaska Aces News Release

PHOENIX - Michael Mole stopped all 36 shots he faced while Mike Ouellet had a goal and an assist as Phoenix dealt Alaska its first road defeat in 11 games, 3-0, before 2,865 at the US Airways Center.

Alaska, 19-1-1 over its last 21 games coming into the contest, looked sluggish for most of the first period. The Aces were out-shot 13-6 and fell behind 2-0 on an even strength goal by Ben Knopp at 8:50 and a power play tally from Mike Ouellet with 5:04 left in the frame, a drive from high slot that squeezed through the legs of Alaska starter Matt Underhill.

The Aces took 17 of the first 19 shots in the second period, thanks in large part to five power plays, but failed to break through against Mole and entered the final period trailing for only the sixth time all year. Joe Dusbabek gave the Roadrunners their winning margin of 3-0 with a goal off the rush at 4:45, and Alaska never challenged thereafter, despite eventually owning a 36-28 edge in shots on goal. The power play, which had accounted for 15 goals in the last six games and nine in the last three, finished 0-for-9.

The Aces (25-5-3 overall) and Roadrunners play twice more, tomorrow night at 5:11 p.m. AST and Friday at 5:11 p.m. AST, before Alaska concludes its eight-game, 11-day trip at San Diego Saturday at 6:00 p.m. AST. The Aces already have beaten the Gulls twice on this road trip, 4-2 last Wednesday and 6-3 Sunday.

All Alaska Aces games, home and away, are broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com. In addition, all home games and selected road contests will be available on a pay-per-view basis on the internet, courtesy of B2 Networks.
