Gulls' Weiman Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Tyler Weiman of the San Diego Gulls is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Jan. 1-8, 2006.

The 21-year-old was 2-0-0 with a 1.26 goals-against average and .960 save percentage in four appearances as San Diego went 2-2-0 and moved into a tie for second place with Long Beach in the Pacific Division.

Selected in the fifth round (164th overall) by Colorado in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft and under contract to the Avalanche, Weiman made his first start on Jan. 6 against Idaho and stopped 31 of 32 shots in a 2-1 win and started the following night against Utah and had 34 saves in a 6-2 win against Utah. He stopped the only shot he faced after coming on in relief for the final 3:15 of the second period of San Diego's game on Jan. 4 and stopped all six shots after entering the game for the third period on Jan. 8.

In his first season with San Diego, the 5-foot-11 and 180-pound Weiman ranks 10th in the league with a goals-against average of 2.74 and he is 8-8-2 with a save percentage of .909 save percentage. Colorado reassigned him to Lowell of the American Hockey League on Dec. 26 and he won his only start with the Lock Monsters making 26 saves in a 4-2 win against Providence on Dec. 28.

In his first professional season in 2004-05, Weiman played in the Central Hockey League where he helped Colorado capture the league championship while being named Rookie of the Year and Goaltender of the Year after going 33-6-5 and setting a league record with a goals-against average of 1.80.

The native of Lloydminster, Alberta played four seasons in the Western Hockey League with Tri-City where he was 67-97-18 with a goals-against average of 3.50 in 200 games.

Runners Up: Mike Morrison, Greenville (3-0-0, 1.95 GAA, .923 save pct.) and Dustin Traylen, Trenton (3-0-0, 1.67 GAA, .933 save pct).
