Owen Sound Attack News Release

Nick Chenard made 33 saves in his season debut, but could not prevent Owen Sound losing 2-1 in overtime to the rival London Knights.

Chenard had missed around two months of action with an injury he sustained during training camp, but looked in mid-season form Friday night in London, as he made his season debut. The Attack net minder stopped all but two Knights shots, with the first goal coming off a rebound in the slot and the overtime winner, a perfectly placed shot.

It looked like it might be Owen Sound's night early, as the Bears came out and were hungry the moment the puck dropped, as assistant captain Stepan Machacek had a golden opportunity to open the scoring but was denied by London goal Brett Brochu. Not long into the game, the Knights began to turn the tables and were carrying much of the play throughout the first period, testing Chenard with some quality looks. It was late in the period when Knights forward Cody Morgan had a big rebound bounce onto his stick and he was able to quickly fire it into the empty net before Chenard could recover.

The Attack stuck with their game, and showed strong team defence as London kept pushing the play well into the second period.

Owen Sound has had their struggles with the man advantage against London this season, and after two earlier attempts resulted in nothing, a third power play late in the second period, saw rookie centre Servac Petrovsky take a short pass from Ethan Burroughs, before ripping home his second goal of the season to even the game.

Producing shots on net has been a slight challenge early in the season for Owen Sound, and it was again in London, as the Attack registered only 11 shots on net through 40 minutes of play. This trend did not change in the third period either, as Owen Sound was only able to register five shots on Knights goalie Brochu, but it was Petrovsky who had an in-tight chance late in the period while short handed to give the Attack the lead. Unfortunately, the young centre had gotten in too close and ran out of room to elevate the puck over Brochu.

Overtime was in sight, but. not before Chenard had to come up with a big save, as he was forced to squeeze his pads together to keep the puck from dribbling five-hole.

Much like the start of the game, Owen Sound came out hungry early in the extra frame, but after a scramble in front of Brochu resulted in nothing, it was Knights captain Luke Evangelista who went end-to-end and finished the game with a perfect shot over Chenard's shoulder.

The Attack have a short turn around, as they return to the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre tomorrow night, for their first meeting of the season with the Kitchener Rangers. Tickets for the game are becoming limited and can be purchased online or at the McVicar and McComb Sutton's Reality Box Office.

The game will also represent the Special Olympics Ontario night, as the Attack help raise awareness for all the Special Olympic athletes across Ontario.
