Brantford Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ONTARIO. For the third time this season the Hamilton Bulldogs clashed with the Mississauga Steelheads on Friday night at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre Coming into the Friday night matchup Marco Costantini had stopped 43 & 38 shots in previous meetings and continued to give the Bulldogs a chance to win when he's in net stopping all 10 he faced in the first period. The Bulldogs saw their best chance with Logan Morrison taking the puck off the right wing half boards and driving the goal but ended up denied by Roman Basran leaving the game all tied at 1-1 through the opening 20 minutes.
The second period was more of the same with Roman Basran & Marco Costantini holding their respective forts. Basran's best stop would be on a left point slap-shot from Nathan Staios that saw the Steelheads netminder split out out and nab it with his glove. Not to be outdone however, Marco Costantini's best save would come on a short-handed opportunity where Ty Collins would find Owen Beck right out front of the Bulldogs goal only to be denied by a sliding right to left glove save from the Bulldogs goaltender. After 40 minutes we remained where we started, scoreless, heading to the third.
The third period saw the scoring start but it would be under tough circumstances for the Bulldogs as a pair of quick Steelheads goals from Luca DelBelBelluz on the power-play at 2:11 & Owen Beck at 4:39 would put Mississauga into a lead they wouldn't relent. Roman Basran was called upon to make several massive stops in the third period including a pair in tight on Lawson Sherk late with the Bulldogs net pulled. Finally at 18:33 James Hardie hit the empty net to assure the Steelheads win. Marco Costantini's 29 saves and killing 7 of 8 Steelheads power- plays wouldn't be enough as Roman Basran records his first OHL shutout giving the Steelheads the 3-0 win.
The Hamilton Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, November 6th hosting the Sudbury Wolves at FirstOntario Centre at 4:00pm before hosting the Barrie Colts on Sunday, November 7th at 2:00pm.
