MARLIES HEADLINES:
Leading The Pack: Kris Newbury has potted 11 points over the past eight games for the Marlies. During that stretch, he's scored three goals and added eight assists. Newbury currently ranks first on the team in points and assists, plus/minus (plus-one) and third in penalty minutes. His five power play assists rank sixth (tie) in the league. Newbury is the Marlies all-time leader in points (150), goals (53), assists (97), penalty minutes (423) and shorthanded goals (tie) with five.
Special Teams:
Power Play: The Toronto Marlies power play clicked four times on five attempts on Friday night against the Rochester Americans. Toronto's power play currently ranks seventh (tie) in the AHL with a 19.6% success rate. Five out of the Marlies six goals this past weekend came on the power play. Their power play on the road ranks first overall at 40%. The Marlies have registered three, multi power play goal games so far this season. Kris Newbury leads all Marlie skaters with five power play points (one goal, four assists).
Penalty Kill: The AHL`s best penalty kill during the 2007-08 season, is a solid 42-for-46 (91.3%) killing penalties on home ice so far this season. Toronto has successfully killed off their previous 22 consecutive penalties. Through 10 games, they rank third in the league with a 91.2% success rate. They've given up only five power play goals in 10 games. The Marlies haven't allowed a power play goal in the past three games. Darryl Boyce potted the Marlies first shorthanded tally of the season against Lake Erie on Oct. 12 to knot the game at 3-3 late in the third period. Alex Foster set a Marlies franchise record last season with five shorthanded goals.
Devo Time: Andre Deveaux recorded his first career AHL hat trick last Sunday vs. Houston with two goals coming on the power play. Deveaux currently ranks first on the Marlies with five goals. His three goals on the power play this season ranks 11th (tie) in the AHL. He is first on the team, and 11th in the league with 43 penalty minutes. Deveaux ranks third (tie) on the Marlies in points with six (five goals, one assist). Last season he won the Calder Cup as a member of the Chicago Wolves and ranked eighth in the AHL with 232 penalty minutes.
Unveiling the Banner: The Marlies opened up the 2008-09 season by unveiling their North Division championship banner from the year before. The Marlies won their division with a 50-21-3-6 record for 109 points, nine more points then next closest Syracuse (100 points). Toronto has 15 current players that helped them to their title berth on the opening day roster.
Multi-Point Games: Kris Newbury has tallied three, three-point games so far this season. The Marlies all-time leading point scorer, notched three points (one goal, two assists) all on the power play on October 31 at Rochester. He recorded three assists on Wednesday vs. Hamilton and tallied two goals and one assist, including the game-winning goal on Sat., Oct. 18 vs. Hartford. The only other player to record three points in a single game is Andre Deveaux when he netted a hat trick on Oct. 26 vs. Houston. Also this season, Jaime Sifers, Tim Stapleton, Stefano Giliati, Alex Foster, Brent Aubin, Mark Bell, Darryl Boyce, Richard Petiot and Jeremy Williams have all notched two-point games.

Pogge Standing Tall: Justin Pogge has started nine of the Marlies first 10 games of the 2008-09 season. He's notched a record of 3-4-2 and has posted a 2.76 goals-against average and a 0.897 save-percentage. The Marlies starting goalie is the club's all-time leader in wins (48), games played (98), and shutouts (seven). Last year he posted a record of 26- 10-4 with a 2.34 goals-against average and 0.908 save-percentage.
Making Their Debut: The Marlies have dressed eight new players through their first 10 games this season. Defencemen Richard Petiot, Andy Schneider, Juha Uotila and Josef Boumedienne; forwards Andre Deveaux, Tim Stapleton and Mark Bell have all seen action in at least one game for the Marlies. Adam Munro made his Marlies debut on Sunday, October 19 in a relief effort, backing up Justin Pogge. Munro made 16 saves in the effort. Newcomer, Tim Stapleton scored the Marlies first goal of the 2008-09 season in the third period and also scored in the shootout on Friday night against the Binghamton Senators.
Behind The Bench: Assistant coach, Doug Gilmour made his coaching debut on Friday, October 10 behind the Marlies bench. The Marlies coaching staff of Greg Gilbert, Joe Paterson and Doug Gilmour has 2,602 career NHL games of experience. Combined the three have accumulated 1,848 NHL points and four Stanley Cup championships. Gilmour played in 392 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs, collecting 452 points (131 goals, 321 assists) and represented the Leafs at the 1993 and 1994 NHL All-Star Games.
MARLIES QUICK HITS:
- Kris Newbury leads the team with 11 points (three goals, eight assists). Tim Stapleton ranks second on the Marlies with eight points (one goal, seven assists). Brent Aubin, Andre Deveaux and Mark Bell are tied for third with six points each.
- Newbury, Deveaux, Kronwall and Battaglia all share the team-lead with a plus-one rating. Andre Deveaux leads the team with 43 penalty minutes.
- Andre Deveaux has scored a goal in three of the past six games. Last season with the Chicago Wolves, he scored seven goals and added 11 assists in 66 games and also went on to help the team win the Calder Cup.
- Tim Stapleton has notched five assists over the past four games.
- Adam Munro made his first start of the season on Friday night against the Rochester Americans, making 18 saves on 20 shots.
- Former Toronto Marlies forward, John Mitchell scored his first career NHL goal on Saturday night against the New York Rangers. He went onto score another goal and add an assist in the Maple Leafs 5-2 victory.
- The Marlies begin a five-game road trip on Saturday night when they travel to Hamilton to take on their QEW- rival, the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. at Copps Coliseum. The following weekend, Toronto travels to Winnipeg, MB to play two games against the Moose. The road swing ends with two games against Rochester and Binghamton on Nov. 19 and Nov. 21.
- The Marlies currently rank fifth in the North Division with a 4-4-0-2 record for 10 points through 10 games. This week they play only one game in Hamilton on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
- The Marlies won the North Division last season with a record of 50-21-3-6 for 109 points. The 109 points set a Maple Leafs affiliate record.
RBK/AHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE
For the week ending November 2, 2008, the Toronto Marlies nominated right wing Jeremy Williams for consideration as the Rbk/AHL Player of the Week. The Regina, Saskatchewan native scored two goals and added an assist in three games this past weekend for the Marlies. Williams registered 12 shots on goal during that stretch and netted the game- tying goal on Sunday afternoon against the Hamilton Bulldogs. His four goals so far this season rank him second on the team.
IN THE BOOTH:
The Marlies and Rogers Cable TV announced their 29 game broadcast schedule, which will comprise of Friday, Saturday and Sunday home dates. The television play-by-play duties will be handled by the voice of the Marlies, John Bartlett, who returns for his fourth season with the organization. Former NHLer and Toronto Maple Leaf, Bob McGill, will join Bartlett in the booth for all 29 games.
The Marlies announced on Friday, October 10 in conjunction with the FAN 590, that all 80 regular season games will be live on the FAN 590. Marlies play-by-play announcer, along with colour commentator, Bob McGill will provide the live action for Marlies fans this season. IN THE COMMUNITY
The Marlies travel to Al Palladini Arena in Vaughn on Tuesday, November 4 to take part in their second of five community practices this season. The Marlies will have a full team practice beginning at 7:00 p.m. and then one lucky minor hockey team will have the chance to hit the ice with the coaches and players. The night will end with a full team autograph session.
On Wednesday, November 5 the Toronto Marlies will be part of their second school visit of the 2008-09 season. Alex Foster, Juha Uotila and Adam Munro will head to St. Stephens Catholic Elementary School at 1:30 p.m. to talk to students about anti-bullying in schools. The voice of the Toronto Marlies, John Bartlett and Duke the Dog will also be in attendance.

Recap: The Marlies used four power play goals to earn their first road victory of the season over the Rochester Americans. After falling behind 1-0, Alex Foster tied the game while on the power play tipping a Kris Newbury point shot past Rochester's Tyler Plante. Jeremy Williams put the Marlies ahead, 2-1 with his third of the season on their next power play. The Amerks beat Marlies starting goalie, Adam Munro before the first period was over to tie the game at 2-2. Newbury put Toronto back on top, 3-2 with the Marlies third power play tally of the night. Williams and Tim Stapleton each picked up assists on the Newbury goal. The Marlies held the Americans to only three shots on goal during the second period. Jaime Sifers scored the Marlies fourth power play tally of the night to put them ahead 4-2. Boyd Devereaux added an empty net goal late to seal the victory.

Recap: The Marlies were shutout at home for the first time since March 8, 2008 by the Lake Erie Monsters on Saturday afternoon. Each Marlie recorded a shot on goal except for Juha Uotila and Joseph Boumedienne. T.J. Hensick, Brian Willsie and Chris Durno each scored a goal to lead the Monsters to their second victory of Toronto this season. Justin Pogge got the start for the Marlies and made 11 saves in the loss. The Marlies penalty kill was a perfect 5-for-5 on the afternoon.

Recap: The Marlies had great goaltending by Justin Pogge, but were up against Bulldogs starting goaltender, Marc Denis who was equally as impressive. After two scoreless periods, David Desharnais put the Bulldogs on the board with his third of the season. The Marlies responded five minutes later while on the power play. Jeremy Williams fired a shot on goal that was deflected off a Bulldogs defender and beat Denis to tie the game at 1-1. Kris Newbury recorded his fifth power play assist on the play. The game went into a shootout and the Bulldogs' Max Pacioretty beat Pogge in the fifth round to give Hamilton the victory.
