Last Week's Games
Wednesday, October 29th - Manitoba Moose 4 at Quad City Flames 2
The Flames dropped a 4-2 decision to Manitoba on Wednesday night at the i wireless Center. The defeat can be blamed largely on a stretch of 3:36 late in the first during which the Moose scored three times. Adam Cracknell and Warren Peters scored for Quad City in the game. Peters' tally extends his goal-scoring streak to three games. The Flames dominated play through the opening 15 minutes. Quad City held a 1-0 lead with 5:01 left in the first period thanks to Adam Cracknell's third goal of the year. Cracknell scored by driving to the net and receiving a pass from linemate Kyle Greentree. The rookie forward slammed the puck into the Manitoba net to give the Flames the edge. After controlling the first three-fourths of the first period, the Flames surrendered three goals in a span of 3:36. Michael Grabner scored from point-blank range on a feed from Ray Sawada to start the Manitoba onslaught. Mike Keane continued the rally just 42 seconds later when he roofed a puck past Matt Keetley for his first goal of the year. Grabner netted his second goal of the night with 85 seconds left in the period to cap the first frame with Manitoba holding a 3-1 edge. Warren Peters scored the only goal of the middle frame to pull the Flames to within a single tally. Peters was sprung on a two-on-one break after Carsen Germyn found him with a long outlet pass. The Flames captain beat Moose netminder Karl Goehring with a slap shot from the right wing to make it a one goal game after 40 minutes. In the third, the Flames had three power-play opportunities but could not beat Goehring. One power-play opportunity came after Peters was hooked from behind on a semi-breakaway. Referee Ian Croft called the minor but did not issue a penalty shot. The Flames were unable to convert on the ensuing power play. Just minutes later, Jason Jaffray scored into an empty net to secure the win for Manitoba.
Friday, October 31st - Quad City Flames 2 at Peoria Rivermen 4
The Flames suffered a 4-2 loss on Halloween night in Peoria. Steve Regier scored twice for Peoria in the win. The power forward has recorded four goals in two games this season vs. the Flames. Quad City's offense was provided by Warren Peters, who extended his goal scoring streak to four games, and Brett Sutter. The Flames stepped out to a 1-0 lead just 26 seconds into the first period when Warren Peters sent a shot into the back of the night from the left wing corner. It marked the fourth consecutive game that the Flames Captain scored a goal. The Rivermen responded with a pair of power-play goals off the stick of Steve Regier. Regier scored the first of his two goals by jamming home a free puck with 8:38 gone in the first period. Less than five minutes later, Regier once again did the dirty work by picking up a puck just outside of the Quad City crease and putting it past Flames netminder Matt Keetley. The Rivermen extended their lead by scoring the only goal of the middle frame. Eric Neilson netted his first goal of the season by scoring during a delayed penalty at 14:16 of the middle period. Neilson celebrated his first goal by taking a roughing minor immediately after the tally. Neilson's teammate Ryan Reeves was also sent to the box on the stoppage along with Flames enforcer Peter Vandermeer. Quad City was unable to convert on the ensuing power-play at the second period ended with the Rivermen in front by a score of 3-1. The Flames cut the Peoria lead to one at 9:08 of the third when Brett Sutter tipped home a Brad Cole point shot for his first goal of the year. Dan Ryder drew a secondary assist on the tally. Quad City could draw no closer before a Cam Paddock empty net goal insured the win for the Rivermen.
Saturday, November 1st - Manitoba Moose 3 at Quad City Flames 1
The Flames dropped a 3-1 decision to Manitoba on Saturday at the i wireless Center. The Moose specialty teams made the difference in the win as the Flames went 0-8 on the man advantage while Manitoba scored twice on three power-play attempts. Brett Palin netted the lone Flames marker in the loss. The only goal of the opening period came from an unlikely source as Brett Palin netted his first goal as a Flame in his 75th game with the team. Palin sent a shot through traffic and into the Manitoba net from the right wing point. John Armstrong recorded his first professional point with the primary assist on the goal. The Flames went on to control play for most of the period while outshooting Manitoba 12-7. The Flames hit the post three times in the middle period but were unable to score as Karl Goehring turned aside all 13 shots he faced in the second frame. Meanwhile, Manitoba scored on a man advantage to tie the game at one. Michel Ouellet received credit for the marker after tipping a Jimmy Sharrow point shot into the Quad City net. The Moose won the game after killing off six consecutive Quad City power plays through the middle stage of the second period and the first half of the third frame. Manitoba added insult to the Flames inability to convert on power-play chances by scoring a power-play goal of their own with 2:40 left in regulation. Mark Cullen netted his third goal of the year on a shot from the goal line that was set up by Jason Jaffray. Michael Grabner added an empty netter to secure the win as Manitoba won their seventh consecutive decision.
