Gwinnett Stripers News Release

COLUMBUS, OH - The Columbus Clippers (10-7) shutout the Gwinnett Braves (10-9) for the second straight game, this time by a 4-0 score Monday night to sweep the three-game series at Huntington Park.

The G-Braves have not scored a run since Matt Tuiasosopo's leadoff homer in the top of the fourth of Saturday night's contest against the Clippers.

Robbie Grossman hit a solo home run off Gwinnett starter Williams Perez in the bottom of the second to put the Clippers up 1-0 and provide all the runs the hosts would need.

In the bottom of the third, Perez gave up back-to-back doubles to Ronny Rodriguez and Michael Martinez giving the Clippers a 2-0 advantage.

Columbus added another run in the bottom of the fifth as a leadoff walk to Rodriguez and a double by Martinez put runners on second and third with no outs. Perez then hit Erik Gonzalez in the helmet with a pitch that loaded the bases. Gonzalez was able to walk off under his own power, but was replaced by pinch-runner Giovanny Urshela. Jesus Aguilar then plated Rodriguez with a sacrifice fly to center.

The final run of the night came in the bottom of the eighth as Urshela hit a leadoff, solo homer against G-Braves reliever Jose Ramirez.

Perez, (L, 0-1) in his first start of the season for Gwinnett, went 5.0 innings, allowing five hits and three earned runs. The right-hander walked three and struck out five. Joel De La Cruz tossed a scoreless inning of relief and Ramirez yielded just the one hit over two innings, while walking one and striking out three.

Mike Clevinger (W, 2-0) did not allow a run over 5.1 innings, while holding the G-Braves to just three hits and three walks while striking out six. Kyle Crockett, Tommy Hunter, Shawn Armstrong and Austin Adams combined to allow one hit over 3.2 innings of relief for the Clippers.

Tyler Moore was 2-for-4 with a double for Gwinnett and Emilio Bonifacio went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases to give him an International League-best seven on the season.

Martinez was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Columbus.

The G-Braves continue their road trip with a three-game series beginning Tuesday night at Fifth-Third Field in Toledo, Ohio, against the Mud Hens. Righty Tyrell Jenkins (1-2, 2.40 ERA) will start for Gwinnett against right-hander Thad Weber (2-0, 0.82 ERA) for Toledo. First pitch set for 6:35 p.m. Tony Schiavone has the play-by-play call on 97.7 FM at 6:05 p.m.
