Heat Blank Marlies in Front of 6503 Fans

Abbotsford, BC - The Abbotsford Heat shut out the Toronto Marlies (AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs) 3-0 in front of 6,503 on Fan Appreciation Night at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre (AESC) on Friday.

Danny Taylor made 25 saves to post his third shutout of the season and Tyler Ruegsegger had a goal and an assist to earn first star honours in the win. Krys Kolanos extended his goal-scoring streak to three games, while Ben Walter now has points in each of his last seven games.

Tyler Ruegsegger opened the scoring 8:11 into the game with his tenth goal of the season. The goal was assisted by Mike Matzcak and Blair Jones.

The Heat extended their lead to 2-0 on the power play at 9:38 into the second period. Mike Testwuide scored on a goalmouth scramble, assisted by Brady Lamb and Tyler Ruegsegger. The goal was Testwuide's fourth of the season in his first game back from injury. The Heat led 2-0 after 40 minutes.

Krys Kolanos rounded out the scoring with his team-leading 17th goal of the season at 5:01 of the third period. Kolanos has scored in each of the last three games, while Ben Walter extended his point streak to seven games with an assist on the play. Newcomer Mark Cundari had numerous heavy hits in the game and also recorded an assist on Kolanos's goal.

Danny Taylor started for the seventh time in the last eight games and made 25 saves to post his third shutout of the season. The Heat out-shot the Marlies 26-25 in the game.

Abbotsford scored on two of three power play opportunities, while the penalty kill erased all six Marlies man advantages.

The final Heat home game of the 2012-13 season comes Sunday afternoon at 4:00 PM PDT against the Marlies. Sunday's game features the announcement of the team's annual award winners prior to puck drop. Team MVP, Top Defenceman, Top Rookie, Fan Favourite, and Community Player of the Year award winners will all be recognized at centre ice.
