Jackals Fall in Trenton

March 7, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release

TRENTON, N.J. - March 7, 2013 - The Elmira Jackals finished up their five game road trip with their only loss in regulation as they dropped a 4-2 decision to the Trenton Titans. The loss was Elmira's first in regulation in its last 10 games and moved its record to 32-21-7 on the season.

After weathering an 10-shot storm from the Titans over the first half of the opening stanza, the Jackals used some hard work on the forecheck to crack the scoreboard first. Brian Elser, in his second game with Elmira, worked a puck from the corner boards back to the left point for Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel whose centering pass was tipped in by Andrew Rowe for his 23rd of the season. Maxime Clermont stopped 11 shots in the first to keep Elmira ahead heading into the second. Clermont was an unexpected starter, but after warmups Ian Keserich was unable to go due to flu-like symptoms.

The Titans didn't take much time to wipe out the Jackals' lead in the second. Just 31 seconds in, Blake Kessel joined an odd-man rush and shot a drop pass behind Clermont for his seventh of the season. Trenton then lurched in front at 6:38 when Bryan Haczyk potted a rebound for his 13th goal while the Titans were on a power play. Elmira had a pair of great chances to tie it, but Rob Bellamy and Elser were both turned away by goalie Cal Heeter on separate breakaways. Trenton used a 16-8 shot advantage to take the 2-1 lead into the third.

The start of the third had a similar feel to the second and that spelled trouble for the Jackals. Jesse Todd scored off of a broken play with only 1:31 gone by for his third of the season. That proved to be the eventual winner, but Kessel added his second of the night for insurance roughly 6:30 later. Elmira's Kyle Bushee scored on a wraparound at 15:56 to put a spark into the Jackals' attack. With Elmira looking for another late tally, Paul Cianfrini was hit with a tripping minor at the 17:07 mark. The Jackals got Clermont off for a 6-on-4 skater advantage with about 30 seconds left on the advantage, but couldn't dent the net again.

Clermont shouldered his 11th loss of the season while making 30 saves. The Jackals ended the night 0-for-1 on the power play and 1-for-2 on the penalty kill.
