Sea Dogs Open Season with 4-3 Win

Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs opened the 2011 season with a 4-3 win over the Reading Phillies Thursday night at Hadlock Field before a crowd of 5,085. Chih-Hsien Chiang led the Portland offense reaching base four times on three hits and a walk. Chiang scored twice and stole a base.

Che-Hsuan Lin tripled to lead off the fifth inning and scored on Alex Hassan's sacrifice fly to break a 3-3 tie, giving Portland the 4-3 victory on Opening Night.

Alex Wilson (1-0) pitched five solid innings allowing three runs on six hits to earn the win. Wilson struck out three and did not walk a batter.

The Sea Dogs got the scoring started in the second inning when Chiang doubled and scored on a Will Middlebrooks RBI single.

The lead was short lived as the Phillies put up a two spot in the top of the third when Freddy Galvis delivered a bases loaded single to right.

Portland would respond with solo runs in both the third and fourth to take a 3-2 lead. In the third, Ryan Dent led the inning off with a single, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch from Josh Zeid and scored on a Hassan RBI single.

Chiang led off the fourth inning with a single, stole second, and scored on a Tim Federowicz single as the Sea Dogs took a 3-2 lead.

Tuffy Gosewisch homered into the Maine Monster in the fifth inning for Reading to tie the game at three.

Reading starter Zeid (0-1) suffers the loss, yielding four runs on seven hits in five innings. He struck out five and walked one.

Seth Garrison pitched well in relief of Wilson tossing two scoreless innings. Blake Maxwell recorded the save as he pitched two scoreless innings to preserve the win for the Sea Dogs.

The Sea Dogs collected three stolen bases on the night, one each from Chiang, Dent, and Middlebrooks. Portland catcher Ryan Lavarnway did not allow a stolen base, throwing out Harold Garcia, the lone Reading attempt.

The Sea Dogs improve to 9-9 all-time in season openers.

The Sea Dogs continue the homestand with a 6:00 PM game Friday night against the Reading Phillies. Right-handed pitcher Brock Huntzinger will make his Double-A debut for the Sea Dogs. He will be opposed by Reading righty Austin Hyatt.
