Sea Dogs Open 2011 Season Tonight

The Portland Sea Dogs open the season today at Hadlock Field! First pitch is scheduled for 6:10pm as the Sea Dogs take on the Reading Phillies. Portland will play their first seven games of the season at home with four games against Reading and three more versus the Trenton Thunder. Roster features top prospects Pimentel & Tejeda

Highlighting the 2011 roster are Stolmy Pimentel and Oscar Tejeda; two of Boston's top ten prospects according to Baseball America. The 2011 Sea Dogs roster includes 13 returning players from the 2010 season. Two players from the Red Sox 40-man roster; Pimentel and Tejeda will open the season in Portland. Two of Boston's top ten prospects according to Baseball America and seven out of the top 30 prospects will start in Portland; Pimentel (# 6), Tejeda (# 10), Will Middlebrooks (# 11), Ryan Lavarnway (# 16), Alex Wilson (# 19), Tim Federowicz (# 21), and Che-Hsuan Lin (# 25).

Sea Dogs Announce Opening Ceremonies

The Portland Sea Dogs have finalized plans Opening Day 2011 at Hadlock Field. Love will be in the air as the team will host a wedding ceremony on the field. Dayna Russo will marry Scott Merrow with the wedding being officiated by Lori Voornas from WJBQ 97.9 FM.

Other Opening Day festivities will include a performance by the Edward Little High School Red Eddies band, a parade by all of the students from the Read Your Way to Opening Day challenge, and the Bellamy Jazz Band performing on the front plaza. Recently retired city manager Joe Gray with throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Alex Wilson Named Opening Day Starter

Righthander is ranked as the 19th best prospect in the organization by Baseball America

24-year old pitcher Alex Wilson has been tabbed as the Opening Day starter for the Sea Dogs in 2011. He'll take the mound at 6:10pm this evening as Portland kicks off a four-game series with the Reading Phillies.

Wilson finished with a 4-5 record with the Sea Dogs in 2010 following a promotion from Advanced-A Salem. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the second round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Texas A&M. Wilson will throw opposite Josh Zeid of the Phillies.
