Trenton Thunder News Release
(TRENTON, NJ) The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, announce their official Opening Day roster featuring some of the top prospects in the Yankees' organization. Catcher Austin Romine and starting pitchers Manny Banuelos and Dellin Betances will lead a team that, at the start of the 2011 season, will mark its 18th season of baseball in the Trenton/ Mercer County area.
The roster highlights nine of the top prospects in the Yankees organization as rated by Baseball America. Along with Romine, Betances and Banuelos will be Florida State League MVP Melky Mesa, RHP Graham Stoneburner, second baseman Corban Joseph, switch-pitching phenom Pat Venditte, and David Adams and Jeremy Bleich, who will both begin the season on the Thunder's Disabled List. Manager Tony Franklin returns for his fifth-consecutive season at the helm of the Thunder after another championship series appearance last season.
The Thunder will attempt to defend their Eastern League Eastern Division title on Opening Day from Northeast Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester, NH, with LHP Steve Garrison on the mound. Garrison, a Mercer County native, will face-off against LHP Zach Stewart for the Fisher Cats.
