Senators Use Strong Pitching to Shut Down Bowie 5-0

The Harrisburg Senators opened the 2011 with a 5-0 shutout over the Bowie Baysox in front of 4,042 fans at Metro Bank Park. Four Sens pitchers combined to strike out 15 batters, led by Brad Meyers with nine.

The Sens scored three times in the third thanks to four walks and a couple of run scoring hits. Tyler Moore drove in Jonathan Tucker with the first run of the season. Buck Coats followed with a run scoring single as well. Moore had two hits in the game and drove in two runs. Baysox pitchers walked eight batters.

Meyers twice struck out the side in his five innings of work, earning his first win of the year. He allowed four hits and didn't walk a batter. Henry Rodriguez followed and struck out three in two innings of work. Pat McCoy pitched a perfect eighth, striking out two and Ryan Mattheus struck out one in the ninth in finishing up for the Sens. Bowie had just four hits in the game and the Sens didn't walk a batter nor did they commit an error.

The second game of the series and season is Friday night at Metro Bank Park with RH Ryan Tatusko on the mound for the Sens opposed by RH Steve Johnson for Bowie. Game time Friday night is 7:00 p.m. and the game can be heard beginning at 6:45 p.m. on 1460am The Ticket and on the Internet through the Sens website at www.Senatorsbaseball.com.
