Baysox Announce Opening Day Roster

BOWIE, Md. - The Bowie Baysox announce today the 2011 Opening Day Roster. The roster features 21 players who spent time in Bowie last year as well as one player from 2009. The starting rotation is expected to include RHP Chorye Spoone, RHP Steve Johnson, LHP Rick Zagone, RHP Tim Bascom, and RHP Eddie Gamboa. All five of the starters pitched for the Baysox in 2010.

Returning position players include Brooks Robinson Orioles Minor League Player of the Year Joe Mahoney, Caleb Joseph, Steve Lerud, Pedro Florimon, Greg Miclat, Carlos Rojas, Brandon Waring, Xavier Avery, Robbie Widlansky and Jeff Fiorentino, who returns to the team after spending last season playing professionally in Japan.

Bowie's bullpen also features a number of familiar faces, as RHP Zach Clark, RHP Brandon Cooney, RHP Jose Diaz, RHP Wynn Pelzer, RHP Raul Rivero, RHP Ryohei Tanaka and LHP Pedro Viola return to the Baysox.

The roster includes four players from the Orioles 40-man roster: Chorye Spoone, Pedro Viola, Pedro Florimon and Joe Mahoney. The only Baysox players with Major League experience are Pedro Viola and Jeff Fiorentino. 3B Billy Rowell and OF Ronnie Welty are the lone new faces on the Baysox roster this season.

The Baysox open their 19th season as the class Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles on the road in Harrisburg Thursday, April 7. They play their first game at Prince George's Stadium Thursday, April 14, at 7:05 p.m. Parking is free at every Baysox home game and tickets are now available at www.baysox.com.
