TONIGHT: The Richmond Flying Squirrels and New Britain Rock Cats will meet in the opener of a four-game series...The Flying Squirrels and the Rock Cats will both be opening their 2011 seasons in tonight's contest.

TONIGHT'S STARTERS: Right-hander Daryl Maday gets the start on Opening Day for the Flying Squirrels...Making his second career Opening Day start...Also started for Connecticut on Opening Day on 4/9/09 at Portland...Tossed four scoreless innings, allowing two hits while striking out two and walking two and receiving a no-decision...Started the Flying Squirrels' home opener and inaugural game at The Diamond on 4/15/10...Earned the win firing 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing four hits while striking out four and walking two... Won first seven decisions including six straight 4/15/10-5/12/10...Named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week 4/26/10-5/2/10...Named an EL Mid-Season All-Star...Did not pitch in the game due to promotion...Promoted to Triple-A Fresno 7/3/10...Went 8-5 with a 2.34 ERA in 16 starts prior to promotion...Went 1-4 with a 9.21 ERA in seven games including five starts with Fresno...Sent back down to Richmond 8/4/10...Went 1-3 with a 9.68 ERA in nine games, two starts, after being sent down...Is 5-1 with a 3.00 ERA in eight career starts against New Britain...Allowed two hits over eight scoreless innings in his first start against the Rock Cats last season on 4/20/10 at The Diamond...Selected in the 30th round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft...Attended the University of Arkansas.

PROSPECTING THE SQUIRRELS: Eight members of the Flying Squirrels 2011 roster are ranked in the top-30 prospects in the San Francisco Giants farm system according to Baseball America...The group includes infielder Charlie Culberson (#8), left-hander Eric Surkamp (#9), outfielder Roger Kieschnick (#14), right-hander Jason Stoffel (#22), outfielder Juan Perez (#24), left-hander Ryan Verdugo (#25), catcher Johnny Monell (#28), and left-hander Clayton Tanner (#30).

BIG LEAGUE: Twelve members of the Flying Squirrels 24-man roster spent time in big league camp with the San Francisco Giants including left-hander Clayton Tanner, left-hander Ryan Verdugo, right-hander Ronnie Ray, right-hander Osiris Matos, right-hander Jason Stoffel, right-hander Justin Dowdy, infielder Charlie Culberson, infielder Sharlon Schoop, outfielder Juan Perez, outfielder Roger Kieschnick, outfielder Justin Christian, and outfielder Mike McBryde... Tanner is the only member of the Giants 40-Man roster...Verdugo, Stoffel, Culberson, and Perez were Non-Roster Invitees to Major League camp...Additionally, three members of the 24-man roster have spent time in the Major Leagues prior to the 2011 season including infielder Joe Koshansky (Colorado Rockies), outfielder Justin Christian (New York Yankees) and right-hander Osiris Matos (San Francisco Giants).

FAMILIAR FACES: Seven members of the Flying Squirrels inaugural 2010 squad return to Richmond to start the 2011 season...Right-handers Daryl Maday and Ronnie Ray, left-handers Clayton Tanner and David Quinowski, catcher Aaron Lowenstein, and infielder Sharlon Schoop all spent time with the Flying Squirrels in 2010...Tanner and Ray spent the entire season in Richmond....Tanner and Maday were both named Eastern League All-Stars; however, neither were available to pitch in the game.

ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS: The Flying Squirrels inaugural 2010 season went down as a historical campaign...Even thought the club finished with a 68-73 record, Richmond led the Eastern League in both total (463,842) and average (6,626) attendance...It was the first time since 2005 that an Eastern League club other than Reading led the league in average attendance and the first time since 2004 that an EL club other than Reading led the league in total attendance...The Flying Squirrels played in front of 13 crowds of over 9,000 at The Diamond including nine sell-out crowds of 9,560.
