
McDade Has Two Hits in Fisher Cats Season Opener

(Manchester, NH)---Mike McDade went 2-for-4 in his Double-A debut and Anthony Gose and Moises Sierra added singles, but the New Hampshire Fisher Cats fell to Trenton 5-1 in the season opener at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester on Thursday night.
A crowd of 5,972 turned out to see the Eastern Division playoff teams battle.
RHP Zach Stewart (0-1) took the loss for the Fisher Cats, allowing four runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings pitched. He walked two and struck out two. Relievers Ron Uviedo, Joel Carreno and Alan Farina finished up the opener. Farina struck out three in his one inning of work.
Trenton (1-0) took an early lead in the top of the second inning. Cody Johnson singled and Melky Mesa (2-for-3) doubled off the wall in left-center scoring Johnson. Mesa advanced to third on the throw to the plate and scored on a bunt single by Ray Kruml to make it 2-0.
The Thunder extended the lead to 4-0 in the top of the fifth inning. SS Jose Pirela reached on an infield single and catcher Austin Romine walked. 3B Bradley Suttle doubled into the gap in right-center, scoring Pirela and Romine.
The Fisher Cats (0-1) got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning without the benefit of a hit. 3B Mark Sobolewski and LF John Tolisano led off the inning with walks. 2B Jonathan Diaz grounded into a fielders choice, but Trenton made an error on the relay to try for a double play allowing Sobolewski to score.
Trenton added an unearned run in the seventh inning with Suttle, who had been hit-by-pitch, scoring on the play to make it 5-1.
Thunder starter Steve Garrison worked four shutout innings, allowing the three singles. He did not walk anybody and struck out four. Craig Heyer (1-0) worked three hitless innings in relief for Trenton to earn the win. Tim Horton and Fernando Hernandez pitched the final two innings without allowing a run.
The series with Trenton continues on Friday night at 6:30pm. Right-hander Rey Gonzalez is the scheduled starter for the Fisher Cats against Thunder southpaw Schaefffer Hall. An Atlas Fireworks Show will follow the game. For tickets and information visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
