Sea Dogs Offense Eerily Quiet in 5-1 Loss

(Portland, Maine) - Brooks Brown tossed a complete game to lead the Erie SeaWolves (28-37) to a 5-1 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs (34-31) on Thursday evening at Hadlock Field. The Sea Dogs lose two of three from the SeaWolves but conclude the season series against Erie with a 4-2 record.

Brooks Brown (4-4) hurled the first complete game of his minor league career allowing one run on five hits, walking one and striking out five.

Erie used two hits and two errors to plate three against Jeremy Kehrt in the third inning. Ron Bourquin led off with a walk and advanced to third base on a double by Andy Bouchie. Justin Henry brought them both in with a 2-run single to left-center field. Andy Dirks followed by reaching on an error by first baseman Anthony Rizzo. On the same play, Rizzo committed a throwing error, allowing Henry to take third base. Michael Bertram drove in the final run with a run-scoring ground out.

The SeaWolves added a two-out run in the fourth inning on a throwing error by Ray Chang, enabling Dirks to score, and give Erie a 4-0 lead. Kehrt was relieved after five innings, allowing four hits four runs (two earned) with four walks and two strikeouts.

Kehrt (1-2) suffered the loss allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits in five innings, walking four and striking out two.

Deik Scram greeted Portland reliever Ryne Miller with a solo shot into the U.S. Cellular Pavilion in the sixth inning. Miller, who made his first relief appearance of the season, did not allow a baserunner after the homer. Tommy Hottovy worked two perfect innings in relief with three strikeouts.

Portland scored their lone run in the fifth inning on a Ryan Khoury sacrifice fly.

The Portland Sea Dogs will welcome the Akron Aeros (33-32) to town for a three game weekend series starting at 7:00 PM Friday night at Hadlock Field. Friday's game will feature a match-up of two former Red Sox top draft picks. 2008 Red Sox first round draft pick (30th overall), Casey Kelly (1-3, 4.28), will get the start for the Sea Dogs. He will be opposed by 2007 Red Sox first draft pick (55th overall) Nick Hagadone. Hagadone was dealt to the Indians in July 2009 in the trade that sent Victor Martinez to the Red Sox and former Sea Dog Justin Masterson to the Indians.
