New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH - Shawn Bowman's three-run home run off the roof of the Samuel Adams Bar & Grill capped a five-run eighth inning for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, who defeated the Akron Aeros 9-6 at Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Thursday night for their 20th come-from-behind win of the season.
Trailing 6-4 in the home half of the eighth, New Hampshire (41-26) tied the game on Manny Mayorson's two-out, two-run single off losing pitcher Connor Graham. Bowman (2-for-4, HR, 2B, BB, 4 RBI, 2 R) then unloaded for his 11th homer of the season, taking reliever Steven Wright deep to left for a 9-6 lead.
Adrian Martin (3-1) earned the win with one shutout inning of relief.
Tim Collins yielded back-to-back singles to start the ninth but rebounded to strike out the next three batters for his third save.
Graham (2-3) was saddled with the loss after surrendering four runs on two hits and two walks in two innings.
The Fisher Cats took a 2-0 lead courtesy of Callix Crabbe's RBI fielder's choice in the third and a run-scoring single by Al Quintana (1-for-3, HBP, RBI, R) in the fourth off Aeros' starter Kelvin De La Cruz.
Akron (33-33) stormed back to take a 4-2 lead in the top of the fourth when Damaso Espino (1-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) and Lonnie Chisenhall (1-for-5, HR, 2 RBI) both belted two-run homers off Fisher Cats' starter Ronald Uviedo.
Bowman's RBI double off De La Cruz drew New Hampshire to within 4-3 in the fifth, and Crabbe (1-for-4, 2B, BB, 2 RBI) drew a bases-loaded walk from Shane Lindsay in the sixth to tie the score, 4-4.
In the seventh, Mike McBride (2-for-5, RBI, R) and John Drennen (1-for-5, RBI) put Akron back in front, 6-4, with consecutive two-out RBI singles off Bubbie Buzachero.
After winning two out of three from the Aeros, the Fisher Cats welcome the Erie SeaWolves, Double-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, to Merchantsauto.com Stadium for a three-game weekend series starting Friday night at 7:05pm. New Hampshire right-hander Bobby Bell (3-2, 6.20) pitches against Erie left-hander Ramon Garcia (0-3, 3.76) in the opener. Fisher Cats Pre-Game begins at 6:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Mike Murphy.
Friday night is Scout Night Sleepover at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
