Trenton, NJ - Lance Pendleton tossed seven innings in an 8-4 win as the Thunder (40-24) closed out the series over Altoona on Thursday night from Waterfront Park. Luis Nunez collected three hits including a three-run homerun to lead the offense and take the set two games to one over the Curve. Trenton finishes the six game homestand 5-1.
Lance Pendleton (5-3) tossed seven solid innings and struck out four in the win. The right-hander allowed four runs overall on seven hits and fell down in the first inning on a homerun by Gorkys Hernandez.
The Thunder tied it 1-1 in the bottom half of the first on a sacrifice fly from Austin Romine to score Justin Christian. Trenton grabbed a 3-1 lead in the second inning by taking advantage of the erratic RHP Bryan Morris (3-2). Matt Cusick walked, while Daniel Brewer and Marcos Vechionacci both singled to load the bases. Luis Nunez brought home Cusick on a single to right field and Vechionacci scored on a wild pitch. Morris walked three, hit a batter and threw a wild pitch in the first two innings.
Austin Krum drove in a run on a double in the fourth inning and Romine grounded in Nunez for a 5-1 Thunder lead. Trenton added three more in the fifth inning on Nunez's fifth home run of the season, pushing the lead to 8-1.
In the top of the sixth inning Altoona cut the lead in half as they knocked four hits off Pendleton capped off by a three-run homer from Josh Harrison to make the score 8-4 in favor of Trenton.
RHP Tim Norton made his first Double-A appearance, and pitched the last two innings to preserve the win for the Thunder. Norton struck out three and faced the minimum in his debut.
Trenton next travels to Binghamton for a three game series with the Mets, with the first game scheduled for Friday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Hector Noesi (3-0, 2.57) pitches for Trenton, while Binghamton will start RHP Chris Schwinden (1-4, 7.01).
