. The Akron Aeros pitching staff currently leads the Eastern League with 496 strikeouts this season. The team also has 306 K's against just 135 walks in the last 41 games played.

Aerodynamics.

. Tighten Up. Solid pitching again led the way again Wednesday for the Aeros at Merchantsauto.com Stadium in Manchester as Akron defeated the host New Hampshire Fisher Cats by the final score of 4-1. The Cats struck first against Aeros starter Eric Berger in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by Shawn Bowman. New left fielder Tim Fedroff then made the score 1-1 with a single to score DH Jerad Head in the fifth. In the seventh inning, Akron took the lead for good in the seventh as a Manny Mayorson error at short allowed catcher Miguel Perez to score the go-ahead run on a fielder's choice. Two batters later, first baseman Matt McBride delivered a clutch two-run single to provide for the final margin. Chen-Chang Lee (4-3) earned the win in relief for Akron with two shutout innings while Drabek (7-6) took the loss and closer Bryce Stowell recorded the save.

. Good Berger. Berger has been dominant in his last four outings and limited the Fisher Cats offense through the first five innings Wednesday. He permitted the lone run on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts, finishing just three outs shy of yet another quality start. Dating back to May 30th at Binghamton, the University of Arizona product now has 24 strikeouts in 23.2 innings pitched with a 1.90 ERA. He joined the Aeros roster from extended spring training on April 26th and is now second on the team with 10 starts. The 22-year-old was 3-1 with a 2.67 ERA in six outings during the end of the 2009 regular season for Akron.

. Bryce Maximus. Akron's bullpen continues to be stellar over the past six weeks and Stowell's presence has been one of the highlights. He struck out four in two scoreless innings Wednesday night for his fifth save with Akron and the fifth of his brief minor league career. He has also now delivered 16 straight shutout frames since his promotion from Class A Kinston on May 20th and combined on the season, has 60 strikeouts against 16 walks in 41.1 innings pitched with a 0.87 ERA. The Indians selected Stowell in the 22nd round of the June 2008 Draft and he had a 4.76 ERA between Kinston and Class A Lake County in 2009.

. Mighty Matt. McBride's two-run single in the seventh was the deciding blow Wednesday night as the new Akron first baseman continued his impressive offensive streak away from Canal Park. The 25-year-old native of Bethlehem, PA has now successfully reached base in all 26 of his road contests during the 2010 season. That is the longest such streak in Double-A baseball this year and McBride is batting .300 (30-100) with 17 runs scored, 14 RBI and all four of his home runs on the road.

. The Granite State. The Aeros will attempt to win their fifth straight series in the month of June with the rubber match of this three-game set tonight in Manchester. After the game, the team will embark upon the two-hour bus ride to Maine for a weekend get-together with the Portland Sea Dogs. Akron won two of three against the Sea Dogs last week at Canal Park.
