Kernels Extend Streak to Six with 5-2 Win over Bees

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels extended their longest winning streak of the season to six games with a 5-2 win over the Burlington Bees on Tuesday night at Perfect Game Field. Kernels starter Patrick Corbin picked up his MWL-best sixth win, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits over eight innings. Reliever Johnny Hellweg walked one and struck out two in the ninth for his fourth save.

Mike Trout and Casey Haerther both extended their hitting streaks as Trout went 2-4 with a double and Haerther was 1-4 with a triple and RBI. Trout's streak is at 16 games, the longest streak so far in the MWL this season and Haerhter's streak is up to 11 games.

Luis Jimenez went 2-4 with a double, triple and 2 RBI; Justin Bass was 1-4 with an RBI and Jon Karcich went 1-3 to collect his first Kernels hit. Burlington starter Tyler Sample allowed two runs on four hits over six innings in a no-decision effort and reliever Mitch Hodge (0-1) took the loss. Carlo Testa went 2-4 with a home run.

The Kernels wrap up this short home stand Wednesday night at 6:35 pm. It's a Mix 96.5/WMT AM 600 Winning Wednesday where if the Kernels perform a certain feat in the specified inning, a lucky fan, age 18 and older, could win $10,000. Gates open at 5:30 pm.

Tickets may be purchased on-line at www.kernels.com, or by calling the Kernels Ticket Office at 896-7560 after 10 am on Wednesday. The Kernels hit the road for four games at Clinton before returning to Perfect Game Field on Tuesday, May 18.
