Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

CINCINNATI - Goaltender Mark Dekanich's ECHL debut was rewarded with a 24 save performance in regulation time and a four save effort in a shootout to give the Cincinnati Cyclones a 2-1 win over the Florida Everblades on Friday night. Hans Benson had the lone goal of regulation time for Cincinnati.

For the first time in team history, the two coaches who directed the Cyclones to conference finals met in Cincinnati. Chuck Weber directed the Cyclones to the 2008 and 2009 American Conference Finals was on the Cincinnati bench. Malcolm Cameron, who directed the Cyclones to the 2003 Northern Conference Finals, handled Florida in this matchup. It was Cameron's first contest at U.S. Bank Arena since Game Five of those Finals (April 29, 2003).

The crowd of 3611 was the club's fourth-largest of this season. A total of 40,195 fans have attended Cyclones games at U.S. Bank Arena in 2009-10, an average of 4466 per game. That average ranks ninth in the ECHL this season and is 68.1 percent more than the squad attracted through the doors last season. It took 17 games in 2007-08 for the Cyclones to surpass 40,195 fans.

The first period was scoreless as each team had scoring opportunities-but neither was able to capitalize. The shots on goal favored Cincinnati, 11-7, in the frame.

The Cyclones scored the only goal of the second period when Scott Reynolds fired a shot from the left wing side wide of the Florida net. Barret Ehgoetz dug the puck off the end boards and passed it behind the net to Hans Benson. Benson wrapped the puck around the left side post for his first goal of the season at 28 seconds.

Florida tied the game 1:41 into the third period when Ross Carlson buried hi sixth of the season from Brad Zanon and Peter Metcalf. The shots battle was won by the Everblades, 10-5.

In overtime, each team had a power play opportunity but neither could convert. The shots in the bonus frame were even at two each.

In the shootout, Cincinnati got goals from Dustin Sproat and Scott Reynolds, while Florida was held without a goal. For the game, the shots were even at 25 each and each team was zero-for-four on the power play.

Mark Dekanich, who was assigned from Milwaukee (AHL) to Cincinnati on Thursday, made the most of his ECHL debut in a 24 save performance. He did not allow a goal in the four rounds of the shootout. Barry Brust drops to 3-1-2 on the season with 23 saves. He allowed two goals in the bonus frame.

Cincinnati is now 12-8-1, while Florida is 11-8-4. Cincinnati now trails Kalamazoo for the division lead by one point. The teams meet again for the final time in the regular season tomorrow (December 5), in a ‘Salute To The Reds' game at 7:30pm. The contest will be carried on the club's website at: www.cycloneshockey.com.
