Charleston RiverDogs News Release

CHARLESTON, SC - The Charleston RiverDogs will honor the Kelly Cup-winning South Carolina Stingrays prior to their Tuesday night home game against the Augusta GreenJackets.

The Stingrays, who captured the coveted cup in a 7-game playoff with the Alaska Aces over the weekend, will bring the Cup with them to the regularly-scheduled South Atlantic League game that has a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.

Stingrays team captain Brad Farynuk will throw the ceremonial first pitch as Coach Jared Bednar and defenseman Nate Kiser will also be on hand, along with the Cup.

"The RiverDogs are pleased to show our support and congratulate our fellow Charleston professional sports franchise for winning a championship," said General Manager Dave Echols. "With the Stingrays winning their third championship, the RiverDogs look to continue the winning tradition set in the Lowcountry."

The Stingrays previously won the Cup in 1997 and 2001, and are the only ECHL team to have won the Cup three times.

To secure the Cup this year, the Stingrays traveled more than 18,000 miles and became the only the second team to win Game 7 of the finals on the road (joining Carolina in 1989, which won at Johnstown). Another highlight came when rookie goalie James Reimer was named the finals' most valuable player.

Further, Bednar became the first player or coach to have his name engraved on the trophy three times as he was a player in 1997 and 2001, and successfully guided the Stingrays to the crown this season.

The Stingrays have qualified for the postseason a league-record 15 times in 16 seasons and are the all-time leader with 138 postseason games and 76 postseason wins.

Tickets for Tuesday's game are available by calling 843/577-DOGS (3647) or online at www.riverdogs.com.
