Cyclones Open Three Game Homestand

November 17, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

COMING UP: The Cincinnati Cyclones, the 2008 Kelly Cup champions, open a three-game homestand this weekend. Friday night (Nov. 21), Wheeling rolls in for a 7:30pm tilt on Montreal Canadiens Night. The Cyclones will wear jerseys similar to their NHL parent club that will be auctioned off after the game. Proceeds from the auction will benefit Most Valuable Kids. Saturday night (Nov. 22), it is Wheeling in again for another 7:30pm clash. It is also the Kid's Club game for members of the organization. Next Tuesday (Nov. 25), Dayton is in for a 7:30pm showdown. That night, Labatts beers will be priced at two dollars each for 24 ounce drinks.

CYCLONES LOOK TO EXTEND STREAK: The Cyclones are unbeaten in regulation time in their last four games at U.S. Bank Arena, turning in a 2-0-2 slate. Cincinnati has taken points in the standings in all home games except the opener (Oct. 25).

WEEK IN REVIEW: The Cyclones dropped all three road games this week. Wednesday (Nov. 12), it was a 7-4 verdict in Johnstown, Friday (Nov. 14), a 7-6 nailbiter at Elmira and Sunday (Nov. 16), a 5-3 decision at Reading.

LOOK FAMILIAR?: The Cyclones loss on Sunday (Nov. 16), drops Cincinnati to 4-6-3 on the season. Exactly two years ago (Nov. 16, 2006), the Cyclones lost a 5-0 decision to Dayton to drop to 4-7 on the campaign. Pretty similar? Hopefully. After that loss in 2006, the Cyclones stormed back with a 17-6-3 record (.712 winning percentage) until the All-Star break and led the North Division for 90 days the remainder of the season.

LATENDRESSE IS STREAKING: Olivier Latendresse has scored goals in each of the last five road games, the longest away stretch in the ECHL this season. During 2007-08, Olivier accomplished a three-game road skein although he did it with Arizona (CHL) from October 27 through November 18. During that run last season, Latendresse scored goals at Rocky Mountain (10/27), at Colorado (11/9) and at New Mexico (11/18). He is riding a four game goal scoring streak overall, the ninth-longest in team history. Olivier now has eleven goals on the season and is tied for the ECHL lead.

GAJEWSKI AMONG THE LEADERS: Cyclones rookie goaltender Kyle Gajewski ranks fourth in the ECHL in minutes played (603) and is fifth in saves (293).

OTHER STATISTICAL LEADERS: Thomas Beauregard ranks eighth in the ECHL in points with 16.....Jimmy Kilpatrick is eleventh among rookies in scoring with eleven points.....Steve Makway is eighth among defensemen in scoring with eight points.....Cincinnati is sixth in the league with 14 fights.....The Cyclones are tied for the league lead with ten first goals.....Cincinnati is averaging 4.17 goals per game, second-best in the ECHL.

THE SHORT STORY...: The Cyclones have scored five shorthanded goals already this season, the second-most in the ECHL. On opening night (Oct. 17), Sean Perkins netted Cincinnati's first man-disadvantage goal of the season. Olivier Latendresse had one on November 1 in the win at Dayton and Mark Van Guilder had the score on November 4 versus Reading. Cincinnati had a pair of shorthanded goals on November 5 from Latendresse and Barret Ehgoetz. The Cyclones took advantage of just eleven shorthanded goals all of last season. The club has four already in the month of November.
