Rosa, Bees cruise past LumberKings

Clinton LumberKings News Release
Clinton, IA - Burlington Bees right-hander Carlos Rosa was in cruise control Thursday night at Alliant Energy Field, using his defense behind him and scattering three hits over 7 1/3 innings to beat the Clinton LumberKings, 4-1. Four runs in the first inning off L-Kings starter Omar Poveda were plenty for Rosa (W, 6-3), who surrendered just one unearned run on the night.
The Bees offense was powered by three doubles in the first inning, as Valentino Arce hit a two-bagger to left field with one away in the inning. He came home a batter later as Brady Everett doubled to left. After Mario Lisson was hit by a pitch, both he and Everett scored on a double by Miguel Vega. Jeff Howell added an RBI groundout off Poveda to cap the scoring.
Poveda (L, 1-7) locked in after the troublesome first inning, shutting out the Bees for the next five innings. He tied his season-high with nine strikeouts in the game.
The LumberKings' only run came in the second, as Freddie Thon and John Whittleman lead off the frame with back-to-back singles against Rosa. Joe Kemp chopped a grounder to first base, but the force attempt at second base by Miguel Vega skipped off the glove of shortstop Chris McConnell, allowing Thon to score.
Burlington reliever Kraig Schambough shut down the LumberKings over the final 1 2/3 innings to pick up his sixth save of the year.
The LumberKings (22-44) and Bees (34-31) continue the series tomorrow at Alliant Energy Field, first pitch set for 7:00 pm. Listen to the game on AM 1340 KROS in Clinton or live on the web at www.lumberkings.com.
