Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Adam Rodgers has been placed on the voluntary retirement list, the Swing of the Quad Cities announced Thursday.
The 23-year-old first baseman from Grapevine, Texas expressed his intentions to retire upon arriving to the ballpark before Thursday's scheduled doubleheader with Wisconsin, and has been replaced on the active roster by RHP Brian Stitt.
Rodgers, a 25th round pick out of Rice University in the 2005 draft, hit .287 with 16 doubles and 38 runs batted in during his 60-game professional debut with New Jersey (New York-Penn League) last season. In his first taste of full-season ball, Rodgers was batting at a .244 clip with nine doubles and 20 RBI through 49 games this season with the Swing.
Stitt returns to the active roster after just a three-day absence, having been placed on the disabled list on June 12 backdated to June 8. The 23-year-old closer notched six saves with a 3.29 ERA and 12 strikeouts over 13.2 innings of work before taking a line drive off his left hand on June 7.
The Swing of the Quad Cities roster currently stands at 25 active players, the maximum allowed by the Midwest League. An updated roster is included with this release.
UP NEXT: The Swing of the Quad Cities will close out the first half of the season with a home series against Wisconsin that kicks off with a doubleheader on Thursday, as LHP Adam Daniels (2-5, 4.38) will take the mound against LHP Harold Williams (1-3, 3.42) in the opener and LHP Jaime Garcia (4-4, 3.06) will twirl the nightcap opposite LHP Jose Escalona (4-5, 4.03). First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., with coverage on Progressive Talk AM-1270 beginning at 5:15 p.m.

KWQC and WKBF will bring you fireworks after Saturday night's ballgame, and close out the first half with a Mix 96 Family Fun Day and a pedometer giveaway on Genesis Employee Day on Sunday.
