Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
DAVENPORT, IA -- Swing of the Quad Cities starter Jaime Garcia pitched his first professional complete game to beat Jose Escalona and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 2-1 in game two of a doubleheader Thursday at John O'Donnell Stadium. Garcia allowed one run on six hits and struck out five without walking a batter. Escalona pitched 5-1/3 innings and took the loss despite allowing just two runs on four hits. The win gave the Swing a split in the doubleheader.
Wisconsin (27-40) got the early lead with a two out rally in the bottom of the first inning. Ron Garth doubled with two out and went to third on a passed ball. Luis Valbuena drove him in with a single and it was 1-0 Rattlers.
Quad Cities (31-34) tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. Casey Rowlett doubled to leadoff the inning. He went to third on a flyball to right. Randy Roth sent Rowlett home with an infield ground out.
Wisconsin got a leadoff single from Jeff Dominguez in the top of the sixth inning. Casey Craig was asked to bunt Dominguez into scoring position, but couldn't get the bunt down. Then, Craig struck out and Dominguez was thrown out trying to steal second. The Rattler sixth inning ended without further incident.
The Swing got a leadoff, infield single in the bottom of the sixth inning from Daniel Nelson. Casey Rowlett did get the bunt down to move Nelson into scoring position. Rattler reliever David Asher replaced Escalona and committed a balk to allow Nelson to take third.
The Rattler infield positioned themselves on the grass to try to cut down the run at the plate, but Colby Rasmus foiled that strategy with a looping liner into shallow right off Asher to drive in Nelson for a 2-1 lead.
Garcia pitched a 1-2-3 seventh, striking out the final two batters of the game, for his complete game victory.
The Rattlers and Swing meet in game three of the series on Friday night. Marwin Vega (1-3, 6.93ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Trey Hearne (3-2, 3.15ERA) is slated to start for Quad Cities. Game time is 7:00pm.
