Trade Shifts 'Caps Roster; Baxter To Arizona, Kauten Returns

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The Detroit Tigers announced today that West Michigan Whitecaps righthanded pitcher Jake Baxter has been traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks for infielder Adam Haley. Baxter has been assigned to the South Bend Silver Hawks, the Diamondbacks Midwest League affiliate. Haley has been assigned to the Erie SeaWolves and the Whitecaps have added righthanded pitcher Josh Kauten to the roster. Baxter pitched in 16 games for the Whitecaps this season as a reliever. He compiled an 0-3 record with a 3.21 ERA in 28.0 innings pitched. He gave up 27 hits and 15 runs (10 earned) while walking 12 and striking out 22. Kauten returns to the Whitecaps after starting the 2006 season with the Lakeland Tigers. He spent the majority of the 2005 season in West Michigan until he was promoted to Lakeland on July 31, 2005. The righthander from Vinton, Iowa appeared in seven games for Lakeland this season before landing on the disabled list. Adam Haley was playing with the Tennessee Smokies of the Southern League. The infielder has played four different defensive positions for the Diamondbacks AA affiliate - third base, second base, left field and right field. He has also appeared as a pinch hitter 14 times.
