Zapolski Named to ECHL All-Star Team

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 20 seasons of hockey in the Lowcountry and proud ECHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced today that goaltender Ryan Zapolski has been named to the ECHL All-Star Team for the 2013 ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competitions January 22-23 in Loveland, Colorado.

Zapolski, 26, leads the ECHL with a 1.65 goals-against average and .939 save percentage and is tied for the lead with three shutouts. Earlier this week, the Erie, Pennsylvania, native earned ECHL Goaltender of the Week and Month honors and finished a runner up for the ECHL Rookie of the Month award.

In 32 career ECHL games with South Carolina, Gwinnett, Toledo and Kalamazoo, the Erie, Pennsylvania, native posted an overall record of 20-9-1 with five shutouts, a 2.00 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage. Prior to turning pro, Zapolski skated for four seasons at Mercyhurst College appearing in 109 games going 48-43-11 with eight shutouts, a 2.77 goals-against average and a save percentage of .920.

The 2013 ECHL All-Star Week, presented by CCM, begins on Tuesday, January 22 with the ECHL All-Star Skills Competition, presented by OtterBox, and continues with the ECHL All-Star Game featuring the ECHL All-Stars vs. the Colorado Eagles on Wednesday, January 23. Both events begin at 7:05 p.m. MT at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colorado.

More than 50 players from the ECHL All-Star Game have gone on to play in the National Hockey League, including 39 since 2002.

The Stingrays are on the road Friday, January 4 and Saturday, January 5 against the Gwinnett Gladiators and Greenville Road Warriors at 7:35 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. before returning home on Sunday, January 6 to face the Florida Everblades at 3:05 p.m. on Kid's Day at the North Charleston Coliseum.
