Zapolski Named Warrior Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Month

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 20 seasons of hockey in the Lowcountry and proud ECHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced today that goaltender Ryan Zapolski has been named the Warrior Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Month for December.

Zapolski, 26, went 6-1-0 with three shutouts, a 1.50 goals-against average and a .944 save percentage in seven appearances during the month, helping lead the Stingrays to a 6-4-2 mark in December. The Erie, Pennsylvania, native opened the month with four consecutive wins, including a 34-save shutout in a 2-0 win against Gwinnett on Dec. 1, and allowed two goals or less in each of those four appearances. He closed the month with back-to-back shutouts, making 26 saves in a 4-0 win at Gwinnett on Dec. 28 and turning aside all 23 shots in a 3-0 victory against Wheeling on Dec. 29. Zapolski was also named ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the weeks ending Dec. 2 and Dec. 30.

This season, Zapolski is 12-5-0 in 17 appearances, leads the ECHL with a 1.65 goals-against average and a .939 save percentage and is tied for the league lead with three shutouts.

In 32 career ECHL games with South Carolina, Gwinnett, Toledo and Kalamazoo, Zapolski posted an overall record of 20-9-1 with five shutouts, a 2.00 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage. Prior to turning pro, he skated for four seasons at Mercyhurst College appearing in 109 games going 48-43-11 with eight shutouts, a 2.77 goals-against average and a save percentage of .920.

The Stingrays are on the road Friday, January 4 and Saturday, January 5 against the Gwinnett Gladiators and Greenville Road Warriors at 7:35 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. before returning home on Sunday, January 6 to face the Florida Everblades at 3:05 p.m. on Kid's Day at the North Charleston Coliseum.
