Reign Shut out Wranglers with 2-0 Win
January 3, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Ontario Reign News Release
LAS VEGAS, NV - The Ontario Reign (22-8-1-1), defending Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings recorded their fourth shutout win, second over the Las Vegas Wranglers (14-14-1-3), at Orleans Arena on Wednesday night before 3,243.
The first period had more speed and physicality than the two teams showed during yesterday's contest but was scoreless. The Reign had an unusually low shot count in the frame with just five shots on goal. Shots favored the Wranglers by two.
The Reign broke the stalemate at the 13:33 mark of the second period with a laser by Brodie Sheahan for his third tally of the season. The shot cleared Joe Fallon's glove to find the back of the net. ECHL All Star pick C.J. Stretch assisted the play off a pass from Justin Pender.
In the final period the Reign killed three penalties giving them a perfect penalty-kill through the game. Colton Yellow Horn boosted the Reign's lead to 2-0 with an empty-net goal with 42 seconds left in regulation. The tally shattered the Reign's record for the fastest to 20 goals previously held by Derek Couture, Greg Hogeboom, and Kyle Kraemer (41 games). Yellow Horn earned the title in just 32 games. Kraemer helped Yellow Horn beat his record with the assist.
Chris Carrozzi earned his second shutout of the season, both against Las Vegas, stopping all 25 Wranglers shots, Fallon took the loss stopping 20 of 21 Reign shots.
Three Stars:
1. ONT - Chris Carrozzi
2. ONT - Brodie Sheahan
3. LV - Joe Fallon
