
Wranglers Outgunned By Salmon Kings, 6-4

Victoria, BC - The Las Vegas Wranglers (16-16-4, 36 Points) were defeated by the Victoria Salmon Kings (21-15-3, 45 Points) 6-4 in front of 3,970 fans Wednesday night at the Save On Food Memorial Centre. Forward Scott Howes led the way with two goals as Victoria improves to 16-6-0 at home this season. Forwards Olivier Filion, Olivier Latendresee, and Chad Painchaud, and defenseman Patrick Coulombe also scored for the Salmon Kings. Victoria goalie David Shantz stopped 26 shots in the win. Defenseman Craig Switzer, and forwards Shay Stephenson, Greg Collins, and Ned Lukacevic all scored for the Wranglers in their second straight loss. Las Vegas goalie Joel Gistedt stopped 40 of 46 shots as the Wranglers fall to 3-10-3 on the road this season. The Wranglers will head to Alaska to take on the Aces Friday, January 15th, at 8:15 p.m. at the Sullivan Arena.
The Salmon Kings jumped out to a lead just 1:26 into play with a tally from forward Olivier Filion. Captain Wes Goldie created a turnover and set up Filion's seventh goal on the season for the 1-0 Victoria lead. Las Vegas pulled even at 16:06 of the first period with a goal from defenseman Craig Switzer. Forwards Greg Collins and Adam Miller set up Switzer's blast from the point for his third goal on the season to tie the game at 1-1.
Victoria regained the lead 9:00 into the second period with a tally from defenseman Patrick Coulombe. Forward Dirk Southern set up Coulombe's sixth goal on the season to give the Salmon Kings the 2-1 lead. Victoria padded their lead with a goal from left wing Scott Howes. Howes fired in his ninth goal on the season at 12:13 of the middle frame to increase the Salmon Kings lead to 3-1. The Wranglers chipped into the Victoria lead at 16:36 with a goal from forward Shay Stephenson. Forward Alex Bourret and Switzer set up Stephenson's third goal of the year to trim the score to 3-2 Victoria.
Las Vegas evened the scored 3:16 into the third period with a tally from Greg Collins. Collins snapped in his third goal of the season to tie the game at 3-3. The Salmon Kings answered just 16-seconds later with a goal from Howes to regain the lead at 4-3. Las Vegas evened things up again just 21-seconds later with a tally from left wing Ned Lukacevic. Lukacevic slid the puck through the five hole for his 15th goal of the year to tie the game at 4-4. The Salmon Kings went up a goal with a five-on-three power-play goal from forward Olivier Latendresse at 8:03. Goldie and defenseman Jimmy Sharrow set up Latendresse's 15th goal on the season for the 5-4 lead. The Salmon Kings padded the lead to 6-4 with another five-on-three goal from forward Chad Painchaud at 11:30 if the third period. Victoria went two-for-eight on the power-play, with two third period power-play goals for the 6-4 win.
